  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Any idea when the next firmware will come out of beta for Komodo?

Installed it today. Is there any fun to find out if mounting EF lenses or is it pretty much the same with the AF stuff... Figured it the improvements would be something worth mentioning then yes, they would be mentioned.

The AF stuff is such key feature for a camera like Komodo. Think a lot of people would be happy to pay double to get it working. Small crash cam / B cam or what ever is simply worth way more than twice as much if it has a workable AF solution.

When pointed at very bright light sources, the gio scope goes from red to black.

It’s great that there are so many responses to this thread. Unfortunately, none of the responses actually address the posters question… which is the title of the thread:

Any idea when the next firmware will COME OUT OF BETA for Komodo?

In other words… when is the production… non-beta release dropping? I generally do not run beta firmware unless I’m paid to test the product.

On the day of the first post in this thread, there wasn't even a beta. The released version was 1.6.5 and 1.7.0beta was published only two days after the post. I suspected that the question might be related to the AF feature being labeled as beta, or some hidden sarcasm that the firmware as a whole is of beta quality.

I was surprised that my old iPad Air 2, which worked great with my Komodo before the upgrade, doesn't really work at all now after the upgrade. It works great with my new iPhone 14+, but not with my old iPad. That's a big disappointment, but since I also updated my RED Control app, I'm not sure if it's because of the new camera firmware or the RED Control app.

The RED CONTROL app had minor updates on recent months adding a few features to support new camera functionalities (GIOSCOPE, ND on XL…).

So unless you enable face tracking this ‘old’ 2014 device should not behave differently with latest app updates.

for me, yes

I still have to look at the footage on the computer, but I see no improvement. Then again, I’m shooting with the Canon 35mm f/1.8 macro, which is supposed to be among the worst as far as AF goes. You might record 30 seconds where it tracks great, then do another clip where you can’t even get it to lock on the face.

I have a RF 50 mm and it behaves the same way.

Has anyone heard of a timeline for when this should come out of Beta? I'd like to start shooting with Gioscope, but am wary of putting beta firmware on my only camera.

All these beta firmwares are nice n all… but when are we to expect the release (not beta) version? The last release version firmware was over a year ago.

I would imagine because this update is mostly fixes, that the final version is around the corner. Could be wrong.
