Spoke to Erik thursday or friday last
Spoke to Erik thursday or friday last about a lot of stuff, upshot is they are still there and basically on track. Without speaking for Erik but as a manufacturer myself that has been in a slight holding pattern as well, bear in mind that RED has delayed again (albeit slightly) and this next batch of cameras, as Jim has stated, is the NEW RED and we are all a little hesitant to finalize our production without seeing what that is. RED's motto is everything changes but even a minor change to the right part could cause major issues for us if we are already completely committed.
Guys bear in mind that RED has not even delivered THEIR accessories like REDDRIVES, Viewfinders, etc. and they control EVERYTHING. Further, only 100 cameras have been delivered in 3 months and now have been recalled to be replaced - in other words their are currently NO FINALIZED CAMERAS DELIVERED PERIOD. I don't know how many people work at Birger but we are all small companies so unless you get a receptionist - that probably can't answer any of your questions - you probably end up talking to one of the principals - the engineer, the technician, etc.. If you are talking to them then they are not working on production oriented tasks, so most small businesses have to limit that level of communication especially when the answers are undetermined. RED accessories are important but it isn't our only business and until RED delivers cameras it is just development and we have to take care of current customers to have an ongoing business/income.
To demand preorder communication and then speculate on future support for an undelivered product (and undeliverable until RED ships theirs) isn't realistic or fair.
I've been waiting 19 months for my RED. Look at my signature - RED #206 available in November was my calculation adding a 2 month cushion to the original ship dates - yet I still don't have a camera and don't know for sure when I will. I expected to have my camera and be in full production/sales mode on our product.
My suggestion to the group is to lighten up and let things play out.
