  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

IBC - Dragon Epic and Scarlet Firmware V5.1.14 BETA

OMG! I wish I had 4KWS a few productions ago. SWEET! Only concern is the disappearance of manual FAN mode; hoping the "quiet preview and recording" mode is good enough. Adaptive for me doesn't work as I hear the fan sometimes during recording.

urgent: lcd got into clean display mode !

urgent: lcd got into clean display mode !

I had the lcd set to ' auto hide menu' mode, but as I powered on this morning it is now clean display so I can't do any adjustments. How can I get back my menus?is there a secret Button I should press? I'm supposed to be shooting today. Thank you !!!.

If it is still on auto hide the menu button or single tap will bring them back. If you are on 'clean' a double tap should bring back menus to the LCD.

Quiet preview and record runs the camera at it's quietest possible setting while idle and while recording.

thanks for responding Matt,
The double tap anywhere on the screen does nothing and the menu button doesn't work either. Any other options?

Hi Matt,
I Hooked up my 5.6 RED LCD to my brain right after updating to 5.1.14 and the screen went blank after a few seconds. Power is on, brightness buttons function, no image or menu, only blank white.
Tried rolling back the firmware, same problem. I submitted a ticket, but since you're here it would really help me if someone could confirm that the new firmware is working with the non-touch displays.
Thanks, Jeff

I'm not near my camera at the moment, but the non-touch displays are still supported. You may want to try re-inserting the connector while the camera is powered up.

Using it today on set, working great. Only thing I miss is quiet record. Please bring it back!

Is hot swapping the LCD cable supposed to be safe? I don't want to make things worse! Thank you for responding.
Les this happened to me last night. I just pulled out the lcd cable and plugged it back in while it was running. Fixed problem although I feared all hell would break lose before I tried.

Thanks, I already tried that. Also tested two different cables, flipped them over, reseated the Side SSD, no image. My Touch 5.0 works fine with both cables.
I had a normal image for a few seconds after the firmware upgrade, the camera displayed the "Updating Attached Peripherals" message, then it went blank.

Manual fan control in new build

Manual fan control in new build

Can someone confirm whether or not manual fan control has been removed from the newest bulld.

If yes, why.

I can confirm that manual fan control is out.

As to why? I only have my personal guess. The two new fan modes, Adaptive and Quiet Preview & Record, have proven to be much quieter on set.

Adaptive showing it's strength on productions being "run quiet" with the new scaling algorithm and you can set the temperature limit within it's settings. Even in very hot conditions it will scale the fan speed to keep the temperature within safe limits.

Quiet Preview and Record is said to be the most silent way to run your camera if you need that sort of support.

I think many have had mixed feelings about the old fans logic being too loud and I'm more or less surprised to see people sad to see it go. There was certainly a lot of public criticism about it and now Red solved that "user request". I haven't stopped using Adaptive since that firmware update came out. I honestly don't see any real conditions where you'd need anything other than those two modes.

Need help.. I went out side with my epic and the shutter was set to 48/180 setting and I looked out side of my garage and everything was blown out. even set to 56K or 60K/ ISO 800 moved settings to lower or higher..no change I had to change the shutter speed to get a clear colorful look outside with no filter. Lens was set to 3.5 am I missing something? is that normal?

@Tony - Were you in Raw view by any chance. You can make a new thread btw.

Shooting outside during a sunny day at f/3.5 would require a neutral density filter.
