  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Rehoused Nikon AIs or Leica group buy

I am going to throw this out there because I think it is something people in this thread would be interested in. In Northern Italy, this little company is making some really nice products, I have their MATBOX and have been using it for over a year.

They do a nice rehouse of new Zeiss glass in both Canon and nikon mount. I think that it might be wise to also contact Dante about a group buy on these lenses or event the MatBox which is an excellent design if you are using any stills glass with telescoping focus.

i am only a happy customer and I have zero affiliation with them other than from a pure customer experience. They are very easy to deal with and stand behind their stuff.

im not sure Dante would rehouse Leica lenses as it can be quite costly to engage in that for lenses no longer being made, but this might be a viable option for people interested in a low cost alternative.

Thaey ship worldwide for free as well.

I've seen some videos showing their cinevized lenses, and they are looking gorgeous. But I'm not looking for adding gear rings and a de-clicked iris, but for a full rehouse of the lens, leaving only the optical block of the master lens.

Zeiss did exactly that by creating the Compact Primes based on the ZF lenses.
 
That's cool.

That is what I would be looking for in my Leica R's. I've shot enough on them now to be having a love affair with them and almost everyone is open mouthed at the quality of the glass.

I've got very decent sleeves on them now, but a rehouse would be sweet!

GL optics already rehoused Contax lenses, so yes, they are an option. But most here seem to be interested in rehoused Leica lenses, which kind of makes sense, given that the rehouse is still expensive, so you want to use the best available lenses for it.

Haha, sounds like your saying Leica are better than Contax (which I don't agree with, but I find endlessly entertaining). Like any great rivalry, it only works if your passionate. So tip of the hat to you ya!

As mentioned earlier in this thread, I'm in talks with a lens manufacturer who has a lot of experience with anamorphic lenses and is developing a new anamorphic lens set right now.

What would be your favorite focal lengths? Would a set of four lenses be enough in the beginning? Not to get your hope to high: these wont be as "cheap" as the rehoused lenses by GL optics or ALLSTAR. Think more of a price point between a set of Lomos and a set of Kowas...

Anamorphics would be great! 4 lenses is plenty in that format. I wouldn't want an anamorphic any wider than 35/40mm. Things get way too distorted wider than that. This is an ideal range to start for me, maybe add on a 150 later.:

35/40mm
50mm
75mm
100mm

That makes sense. I mean he is rehousing glass they are rehousing too.

I think the main reason is that originally the prime circle lenses were branded as "baby primes" and in their press release they claimed to be made by someone who helped design the digiprime series of lenses which zeiss denied in their own press release
 
I have set of great nikon AI-s lenses I'd love to get re-housed. Any updates on where this is at or how much it would cost?

Sent you a pm. Again, I'm still waiting for the offers which take some time, since they have to figure out if they can take that many orders at the same time on how much discount they could give us, given that economies of scale can't be applied that well for lenses.

I sent my set of three Leica Summiluxes off to V D for a rehouse and paid 75% up front. Christopher estimated 90 days to complete the work. They've had them for 5 months now and haven't responded to my last query on ETA. I'm sure they're going to be awesome when they arrive but thought I should warn you guys about their turn around.
