Rehoused Nikon AIs or Leica group buy

I'm just looking for affordable anamorphic glass period. Rehoused stills glass would also be sweet.

Sorry I can't share any information about the anamorphic glass or it's manufacturer yet.

Most manufacturers need quite a lot of time to calculate whether a group buy is possible for them, given that building lenses is a lot more time consuming than building a steadicam or a slider

I just got a reply from Alphatron that they would be interested in doing a group buy for their new Zunow Imperial Prime lenses.

No worries David. May be a long shot, but if we're looking into straight group buys on cine primes, may be worth asking Schneider Optics? The Xenon FF lenses look awesome.

The Zunow lenses are probably going to be the fastest (1.5) of the bunch. I don't know of any tests done out there yet. I do believe they are also working on anamorphics too.

Schneider is the awesome lens manufacturer I wrote about earlier. I'm already in contact with them

Until now, those companies are maybe interested: Eastern Enterprises, GL optics, Schneider, Alphatron / Zunow

PS Technik is busy. TLS replied, but probably didn't got the concept... still waiting on a reply.

Van Diemen and Focus Optics haven't replied yet.

That's awesome David! Xenon's would be the ultimate group buy I think. And if we wait not too long, hopefully that 25 will come out. A set of 4 - 25, 35, 50, 75 is an incredible starting point, more so than a complete set of converted still lenses in my opinion. Let's see what comes out of this anyway.

or the canon 24-70 version II... Another modern, world class optic.

I think a set of 24/35/50/85 samyang in PL mount with good focus scales, and of course the necessity of extrapolating a 50 by combining and moving elements for under 6000$ would sell well too.

GL optics is offering the 18-35 Sigma fully rehoused. I'm in contact with Nan because of a rehoused Leica group buy, but I'm sure we can also do a group buy for the Sigma. PM me, if intersted.

I also contacted Schneider about the Cine Xenar mk2... maybe they want to clear their stock of it, and the optics are the same as the mk3.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, I'm in talks with a lens manufacturer who has a lot of experience with anamorphic lenses and is developing a new anamorphic lens set right now.

What would be your favorite focal lengths? Would a set of four lenses be enough in the beginning? Not to get your hope to high: these wont be as "cheap" as the rehoused lenses by GL optics or ALLSTAR. Think more of a price point between a set of Lomos and a set of Kowas...

4 focal lengths to start is fine by me, especially if we're talking about more expensive lenses! Something like 25, 35, 50, 75 works. But I understand if others would want between 18 and 100

18mm would be an extreme wide angle... given a 2x squeeze factor, a 50mm lens gives you the same horizontal field of view as a spherical 25mm lens. Since the RED sensor is not 4:3, it would be more like a 1.6x factor.

An 2x anamorphic 25mm would equal a spherical ~15mm on a RED Epic.
