Heyyy... I'd be very honored to welcome you and show you around :-)
They had a project of "eco-city" nearby, that has somehow a link with your "City"...... but it hasn't seen the light yet, too much corruption on the way...

Thanks Yannick, yea I know, and I love that Asia has so many Eco megaproject ideas as well, this are not easy to execute, and I should know, I have been at it for years, and just now finally made it public, yet still years ahed of its time of execution, but they will happen the world, our world needs it badly, because we are the ones that really need it the most.

If and when I make it out to your side of the world, I'll let you know for sure.

I have participated in several grading sessions, were the Colorist used an array of softwares, and I have tended to like COLOR, simple for me, but now I favor Da Vinci... ;)

Ketch, many thanks for being so forthcoming with your experience and insight!

My pleasure and any time Emmett... ;)

JUst wanted to make clear that I also make sure that any one working on any of my footage, at list any of which I have control over it, is not rendered out till all color grad ins are done.

With the idea being to keep the R3D as your working format. ? Do you sometimes have to finish in another codec?

Exactly, do in R3D everything you need to do till the end, you can do your edit as you have in the past by doing it in a lower resolution, as far that all that you do is applied to the R3D data, and then taken till the very end before you extract your final 4k finish or any other formats.

Simply never or at list try to always avoid to have to go back to an already Rendered out file, to do any other work such as grading.

Good to hear that from you Ketch. I've done grading tests, side by side 4k pro res vs. 4k R3D, and I found more latitude working on the R3D, naturally. Been using redcine plugins to get the grade to a certain point, but I was curious as to what color software you like to use, that works efficiently with red RAW, as I feel the grades I've done need a finer tool to get it closer to a finished render. Cheers!

I suppose it's an old comment, but until most of us are working on 4k screens it's hard to know exactly how we're affecting the image!

Well, even so I have just recently finally dived in to Editing my self, I have been there since the change to Digital from Film, and the very first thing I learned in Digital, were at the beginning I only shot the images and the Pros at the agencies did their Photoshop magic, was to NEVER use anything then the original camera RAW format till the very end, as once transcoded to Jpeg, that image could not longer hold to any changes, and this was clear when the agency's main PostEditor accidentally permanently deleted both copies of the original Raw files of an important shoot, and the work done on the Jpegs, as the clients wanted a completely different look, turned in to a nightmare, and the Agency lost a big client, and of course my buddy lost his Job... ;)

So I use the R3D files form the RED in the same respect, do all that is needed in its original format, especially easy today, as more and more predominant Editing platform also read this files.

Yes I agree with there Emmett, a 4k monitor or soon Grading quality Projection system is needed to really appreciate what you are doing and shot, to truly see the HUGE difference 4k makes, but they are coming sooner then later and set to become more affordable very fast.

I can sympathize with your buddy's story, that is never fun. That anecdote makes it all the more apparent how important RAW is. Having only just stepped into it myself in the past year, and I am by no means a rock star colorist XD, it is incredible how RED is pushing the industry forward.

I saw in another post that you won't be submitting to RED's festival, I'm sure whatever you have in the works for next year will be nutty! :)
