  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KETCH ROSSi

I assume the shot of the Falcon in slow motion was yours too? 300mm I am thinking? There is a lot that can be said about this shot, for many reasons. Well done.

No Will that one was not one of mines for sure, as the only Falcon shots I tucked were done from above an SUV while I was sticking out of the top sunroof, going full speed holding the MinGyro as two of the guys were holding on to me so I would not fly off... ;)

Ketch, it's so nice to see someone so generous with details of their shooting methods. Can I ask you if you used faster than a traditional 180 degree shutter for moving shots such as from aircraft or of fast moving objects on the ground, or did you always rely on following the filmed person/object to avoid motion blur? Also, is the "original" resolution on YouTube H264? It looks amazing.

My pleasure Mike,

shutter was kept the same, as it was intended for a general event, so on this one I chose not to create special effect hosts, other then Frame rate, resolution on Youtube is actually 4k.

Ketch. Brilliant shots. Some shots were truly spectacular. I really was impressed that the fireworked looks so good.
I notice that some of the guys had canon lenses. I'm debating if I should get a canon mount. Do you think it's worth it if I have Red Primes. My good canon lenses are 35 f/1.4, 100 f/2.8, 70-200 f/4 so I don't have so many yet. It would be especially nice with the 100 2.8 to get macro and to get a stabilizer.

Cheers!
/Andreas

Thanks Andreas,

yea we used a variety of lenses, and the canon glass is great, but budget and shooting style allowing I would never use it to replace Master Primes, but the truth is that Canon glass and its incredible range can be so very useful in many shooting situations that is smart to keep it in mind, and the new 100mm Macro is a great lens.

Ketch, just amazing!!! You're the man! Best!

Thanks João, glad you like it buddy, but it wasn't just me, this was an mazing collaborative work, and resources put at my disposal, the images basically put themselves in our SSD's.. ;)

Hi Ketch,
I'm really keen to know whether you guys were pulling focus manually yourselves, or did each camera unit include a focus-puller?

Fantastic pictures and great generosity as always Ketch - thanks very much!!!

Thank you for the kind words Joe, glad you enjoy it.

No, we all pull our own focus manually... ;)

Oh I envy you the heat of Dubai.

Met a guy from Dubai on a filmfestival.
He invited me.
Works on infrastructure in the government.

Maybe that should be my next little trip?

nJoy!

He he, yea Dubai can get really hot, but this trip was not bad at all, as it was during November and then again in December that we shot this project.

What was bad was the trip before I did to Dubai when I went to RAK and that was in full Emirates Summer heat, not fun., but yeah you should definitely go and shoot Dubai... ;)

Gunleik, remember there's not so many chances on shooting skin in Dubai. :)

Hi Ketch, any way to see this somewhere else ? I can't access the movie from China.
Also a question, what tripod are you using with your Miller's head ?

Hey Yannick,

that is weird, but for now that is it, as I am awaiting the original files to also upload it on my channels and site.

What I use most of the time during travels is the Gitzo series 5 Carbon X Tripods.

Great, thanks a lot.
Looks you're having a lot of fun in Dubai. Wet winter coming in Shanghai, i miss such warm weather !

Most welcome.

Yes Dubai was hard work, but super fun, and when you work with great people around you, its all the better, plus loving what you do as much as I do, it is always fun... ;)

Shanghai... Huumm, now that could also be a nice place to visit and shoot with Mr. Monochrome... ;)

Heyyy... I'd be very honored to welcome you and show you around :-)
They had a project of "eco-city" nearby, that has somehow a link with your "City"...... but it hasn't seen the light yet, too much corruption on the way...
