  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KETCH ROSSi

Leica, Master Prime, it's going to be good either way. :)

Yes Will, even so I see something coming in the near future more amazing then both this lenses put together, for now neither of them are too shabby at all... ;)

Even if the MP's are a bit heavy on the shoulder... Still love them!!

ketch how are you!

from your experience which are the best lenses that give you the best images!

All good Danny, I hope your are doing great yourself... ;)

Yours is a complex question, with a multitude of answers, each going there own direction, but I'll give you a simple one to start, then we can go form there.

In my strong opinion based on personal experience, the absolute best lenses today are the Master Primes, second to them the Leica Cine primes, third the Red Pro Primes, as far as image quality and Built quality, but they have not gained the sympathy of focus pullers to the lack of additional Focus markings.

In still lenses the Medium Format glass comes first, Leica 35mm glass comes second, then Canon and Nikon glass each have their best focal and their not so best.

How do you get your hands in there to pull focus mate... ?

That set up, misses the FF system, which I can place on the left side and attach a FF Whip to it, and comfortably pull my own focus with the left hand while holding on with the right, or place it on the hempty right side and have a Focus Puller pull focus wirelessly.

When the FF is mounted on left the direction and mount of the ET Bomb EVF mount also can be placed on top, allowing for more space below.

I'll pop up a pic of the complete set up when we come back from the shoot.

What you shooting now? Army, Streets of Rome, Girls?

Its a series of Fashion Films, in both traditional Landscape, as well as Portrait Mode, for vertical viewing on 20x10 feet LED monitors, as well as a possible contract for SKY... Can't say any more at this time, once all is signed and done with I'll comment further on this, but if this goes thru, Milan (first, and other cities all over later) will never look at Fashion advertisement in the same way... ;)

Oh, and they are being shot in both B&W on Mr. Monochrome, and in color on M8... ;)

Hi Ketch,

could you describe the gear that you used to build this rig please ?
I'm looking for something compact like this.

Thanks !

Hi Stephane,

if you are only interested in the Shoulder rig I set up, it was made using the following:

Dovetail and Shoulder Pad with rotational axis from Element Technica, you van order this two parts separately directly by calling them.

RED Collarbone Double Arm: http://www.red.com/store/products/collarbone-double-arm
2 x RED Fixed Handles: http://www.red.com/store/products/fixed-handle

Then to mount the camera on it, I used the:

RED quick Release Platform: http://www.red.com/store/products/dsmc-quick-release-platform-packn

and mounted on the camera I always have the :

RED EPIC Mounting Plate: http://www.red.com/store/products/mounting-plate-epic-2

so I can mount and unmount in second the camera form any given DSMC Platform which I have in various configurations, or if I need to I just simply slide off the entire shoulder rig off the Platform DSMC dovetail and slide it on to any other Arri style dovetails on any other tripod head or platforms.

But I much prefer to leave the DSMC Dovetail Platforms attached to each of the various set ups and simply unlock the camera thru its camera Plate, way faster and much safe to do on your now.

Ketch,

Wicked rig. Will be great to see the R90 in action too.

Changing midstream here: what would you recommend by way of reflectors?

Best and thanks.
