  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

This operational note has not changed for many builds. Alas, I think this means your EVF will still be milky. Am I mistaken?

I'm totally with you on this Mark. The EVF could be sooooo good with this simple firmware fix.

I made a tiff snapshot with unsharp mask on and it seems there was no sharpening done to the tiff. Windows 7 64 bit.

Might we know what has changed in basic technical terms on the new V3 release ?

Mark; I updated to v3 and I can still playback through my Bomb EVF. Still milky blacks though. Possibly slightly better?? I dunno...might be my imagination or wishful thinking. +1 on the milkiness. If they fix that the Bomb EVF would really be the bomb.
 
I love that that the post fx such as Alchemy, Saturation, Unsharp Mask, and Film Look are able to playback real time with a change of the cpu usage in the preferences tab!! Great update!! Always disliked the previos builds slow load for these.

When I open RedCine X Pro I get the message Red Rocket #0 driver or firmware is out of date. this version requires driver 1.4.19.0 and firmware 1.1.16.5 The last time I upgraded the firmware on the red rocket it killed the thing and I had to go 6 months with no rocket card because I couldn't get it back to the USA for replacement. Is upgrading red rocket now safe?

You have to go to full rez and then apply it. Otherwise you will be looking at it in lower resolution and therefore be to gentle.

Try to crank it up the amount to 200 and you should se it clearly. Warning this looks horrifying in 1/2 res. Then change the values to something that fits youre taste.

Me personally love the unsharpen since I think all cameras have to make up for the lowpassfilter in some degree. Just be sure to look in full res when dialing in sharpness.

Subtle changes to skintones and overall? ... NOOOOOOOOO! This has to be the most radical subtleness ive seen in a loooooong time. Skin has microtonality / microcontrast now like never before.

Working with an eye towards print most of the time, the sharpening so much dreaded on here is soooo welcome inside RCX.

I actually can see the sharpening just fine inside RCX-Pro even at lower resolutions. The problem is when I output a TIFF snapshot there is no sharpening applied to the outputted TIFF file :)
 
On a positive note RC3/RG3 definitely lives up to the hype! I love the results I'm getting. I'm also really happy to see that my video card (GTX 580) is now supported! With the previous release I was stuck using my laptop because of video card compatibility issues with my workstation. About to update my Scarlet now and my OLPF port bushing just arrived :)
 
The changes in RC3 are anywhere between subtle and spectacular, depending where you look. Check out a few examples I've uploaded with roll-overs for comparison.
