  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Everything you wanted to know about the EPIC Canon Mount

I've read multiple reports of ZE lenses behaving crazy on Canon mount (aperture closing and opening rapidly once the lens is installed).
Do you have such problems with your ZEs? Or have RED already added support for these lenses to the latest firmware?

thanks, the zeiss lenses I have all behave well (21, 35, 50mm) on build 1.7.10, the problem you describe I noticed on the sigma 70-200, aperture closing and opening rapidly.
I bypassed this by setting the wanted aperture on a 5dmk2 and then moving the lens over to the epic, and turning it not all the way so the contacts do not see the lens.
hopefully this lens will be supported soon as well.

Gonna have to be a lot of emails to be out of back order by mid-january. I'll be excited to see them make that.

SIGMA 10-20/3.5 EX DC HSM AF (APS-C)
SIGMA 24-70/2.8 IF EX DG HSM AF
SIGMA 50-150/2.8 EX DC APO HSM II AF
SIGMA 50/1.4 EX DG HSM AF
SIGMA 85/1.4 EX DG HSM AF
SIGMA 20/1.8 EX DG ASP RF AF
SIGMA 24/1.8 EX DG ASP Macro AF
SIGMA 28/1.8 EX DG ASP Macro AF

Does this mean the Sigma 24-70 2.8 EX DG non-HSM will work too?

Also, does anyone know if the Tokina 28-70 2.8 EF mount works?

Are the screws that came with the Canon mount different from the screws used on the original PL mount?

I just noticed the instructions state to not use the original screws, but they look identical.

I'm about half way done testing a lot of lenses with the electronic Al EF mount.

However, one that I know needs profiling is the Sigma 300mm f/2.8.

When connected to the camera it opens and shuts the aperture very quickly making what I would describe as a "scary" almost grinding noise.

I can confirm the Voigtlander 40mm f/2 SL II EF works fine on the mount.

I just placed an order for (2), I wonder when they will get here.... any reducated guesses? :)

Just went to my local camera store to pick up a Canon 8-15L f4 and had the same experience.

Just got my Canon mount and its awesome. Really solid construction.

Jared (or anyone else),

Do you know if the Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM lens works with the Canon mount? If not, I hope it gets profiled soon as it looks like a great lens to use on Scarlet and Epic at 4K. Right now, this is the only thing holding me back from buying it!!!

Thanks!

Phil, where do you see using this lens? I like the very small form factor.

I used it last night wide open! I would say the length/lens is useful at 5k, 4k, and 3k. The length is nice for medium shots and up to medium closeups for me. A little closer than 32mm/35mm and a little wider than a 50mm basically. I personally love 40mm prime lenses on FF35 as well.

It's tough to put follow focus gears on it as it rests very close to the camera body, but it's buttery smooth on the the pull. I'd use a clamp with handle to pull with this particular lens.

It's so small that I usually keep it in my bag at all times. It's performance/price ratio is very high. And again, built like a tank.

Phil,

Off topic but how was operating w/o the EVF?
