Some adhesives dry up and leave a nasty powdery mess after a few years. The adhesive in gaff tape is one of the worst. It happens with masking tape and electrical tape adhesive tends to turn to goo. Foam also deteriorates with time. In camera heat is likely to accelerate the deteriorization. I am concerned about just how "permanent" either of these fixes will be and how big of a mess the deteriorated adhesive or foam could make around the OLPF in a year or so. It might be best to remove and replace every few months.
