  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Forgotten?

I won't be staying up awake hoping for an announcement any time soon. I reckon you'll be looking in to the spring of 2012. The NAB show. They like their shows! All the expectation without the saleable product in your hand. Will 2012 pass with still no Scarlet? I doubt it. Too many people would get bored and look elsewhere as the market is now producing good alternatives.

I don't think RED has any need to target a product release corelated to NAB. Whenever it is ready to sell, being that i.e. 2 weeks prior to NAB they will sell it.

I wonder what happened after the camera got turned off...

"Okay this is a secret, so don't tell anyone... epsecially not my Boss Jim who will go bananas if he finds out. But Scarlet is gonna be the most badass camera you'll ever lay your hands on. It's now going to be 4K, which is why we had to do some working on the lens. We'll try to have it out by the end of 2011, but let's be honest, it's probably not gonna be out before early 2012."

Or perhaps he just went apeshit on him... but still Jim has said the camera we want is later this year, so maybe we should just hold our horses and try to be just a bit patient.

Or he just knocked the guy out and he woke up in a garbage can in the back of the convention center.

I mean he was asking some really stupid questions sticking his phone up Ted's nose... He was asking for it. :biggrin5:

Kyle Presley posted about these interviews on Scarlet user.

woow - thanks for the links. I missed those. wow woww
I think its the first time I saw a possible glimpse of Ted getting annoyed (at the end of the 2nd video) - "I sad no Scarlet questions but you keep bomarding me with them"
It was very interesthing to look at Ted's reaction on the question about the price difference between Scarlet and Epic? Looks like the initial intention was to mention obvious technical differences - but then the internal breaks kicked in (NO mentioning of any kind of technical details on Scarlet) - and then the general answer came out.
For sure this new "info blackout" strategy falls hardest on Ted's back, cause he needs to politely answer all the questions and always stay focused enough.

I've thought from day 1 going dark on the Scarlet crowd would be an awful move. Now people will bug them more and become more frustrated. It's hard to trust them when you hear some comments Ted makes. He doesn't even sound excited.

give the guy a break guys. nobody is perfect, and nobody likes to be asked the same questions over and over again, especially when they've said they can't comment. i really hope you guys can find some patience. after all, however awesome it may be, at the end of the day we're still just looking at a piece of electronic hardware... try not to get too worked up about it, as i myself have made the mistake of doing.

but that's the danger in making something so awesome. just be patient guys. these are the droids you're looking for.

Yes, patience grasshoppers. :) If you need to imagine scenarios regarding Scarlet activity behind the scenes at RED, I think you'd be a lot better off reading positive things into the tea leaves RED have left for our contemplation, rather than negatives.

When Jim says RED knows what we want and Ted says Scarlet will fill a lot of gaps (in user need other than high-end cinema) I think they are speaking directly to that diverse crowd of us who are waiting for Scarlet. In that vein, I really hope Gibby is out in the wild somewhere testing the latest Scarlet Fixed with accessories and bound by an NDA.

When Ted says (in the first linked video - and thanks for those) some things couldn't be built, I think that means some things are being redesigned, and I'm sure improved. Whether those "things" are minor or major and what will be the impact on price and release date is RED's secret and certainly not something they can be expected to share publicly with their competition.

In the meantime, smoke 'em if you got 'em (be happy working with what you have - if you have work). The professional tool you want, built with no compromises, will eventually show up and blow us all away.

I actually feel bad to see Ted in such a situation - and he is perfect in executing the new strategy!
Also, I think most of us have the patience. I see the current period on the forums as a kind of group therapy - talking to death about the addiction item to survive through the day - as the distributor has discontinued the supply :-)
As you stated - this happens only cause RED is making something truely awesome.

I don't feel that bad. Many companies would kill for this kind of attention. Better to have a masses of people that are interested, right? I mean, all the people that are here asking "when?" are future customers, so it's not such a bad the really.

Plus, this is Ted's job isn't it? I have to say, he did deal with it pretty well though. Although, he should have just let it run, as appose to telling the guy to switch the camera off.

Wow, that second interview was almost as bad as calling the scarlet the RED PRO 5.0!

Poor guy, giving dozens of interviews a day.

Sure, but saying the words 'turn of the camera' is the worst thing you can say on camera if you want to look good.

What else was he to do? He tried steering away from scarlet, he said " this is about epic" other than just trying once again to steer away back to epic, he had no other choice.

Man, even I was getting frustrated just watching that second interview. Ted very politely said that they were only going to talk about Epic and the interviewer just kept on hammering him and hammering him with Scarlet Questions. I thought Ted stayed very patient but at some point you just have to end the interview when it becomes obvious they just aren't getting it. I know we are all growing impatient/anxious due to the incredible nature of the product, but it's also very important to stay respectful at the same time.

Sometime I am really embarrassed by fellow countrymen ... on the accent I can clearly hear the interviewer is Dutch.
On the way he interviewed it, it was all to make Ted pissed.

I am sure Ted as polite as he always is, very friendly ask him his camera and showed him how a proper interview is done (only edit out). ;-)
Personal I would punch the bastard..hehehe

RED's philosophy isn't about squeezing as much money out of their customers as possible. It's about building the best camera out there at an affordable price.

I did say that they should squeeze us much money out of their customer as possible!

Waited as long as I can 4 Scarlet time to move on for now =( I hope in the next year I can buy one but not holding my breath anymore..... Don't get me wrong I love RED but at this point we are going on 4yrs and nothing, while other company's are catching up with RED quality. Soon you really won't be able to tell the difference in footage unless it's on the big screen. Let's get real ,RED for wed distribution... can't really see the awesomeness unless u have a 2k or 4k monitor or projector so to spend upward to 7k-10k for a camera that might not see the light of day for months to years to come, no footage even??? At least give us that! Sorry to be so negative but years of waiting have made so frustrated come on give us footage at least/// =( Luv u RED! But come on, and the price increases make it less comforting.. might as well start selling it as a epic oh well sorry had to say it don't be mad at me =(
Patience

Watching "Drive" last night was pretty amazing; shot with Alexa.. I have never seen 4k projected but when a film is that good, I quickly lose track of all technical jargon anyhow.. If Canon releases a decent codec to a full frame interchangeable cam and Scarlet still isn't released, I suspect people will be jumping ship in droves.. I love Red just as much as the next guy but if I don't have the hammer I've always wanted to build my house...

Wow, angst is not going to make Scarlet come out faster.

To me, until someone else puts out an affordable video camera that records in RAW, I'm always going to be looking at getting a RED. My background is in stills, and I'm only 4 years into my photography hobby, but with the way Olympus has pretty much ignored the 4/3 line for micro 4/3, I'm seriously considering dumping all of my Olympus gear and lenses (started with Olympus because I didn't know better... wish I hadn't). I would love to move to a RED system. Because RED cameras record video in RAW and because of the high dynamic range of RED's sensors. I would get a Scarlet-Fixed first (for video primarily since it's only 5 MP), but then eventually hopefully an Epic S (or its final incarnation) for the ability to shoot higher megapixel stills.

But, if someone else comes out with an affordable RAW video camera, then I could see myself grabbing that (even if it's only 2k) and switching to Nikon for stills (Nikon's dynamic range is much better than Olympus's).

We're all here because we want to buy the best camera we can buy. RED is making amazing cameras. Other folks are, too. I am going to wait to see what comes out over the next year and then make a decision. But, I just don't see the sense in getting upset. It won't help anything. Figure out what your priorities are, then identify the camera system that will meet them, then buy what makes sense for you. Or wait for RED.

Personally, I'm hoping Scarlet ends up 4K (around 8 MP is good enough for me for my still shooting purposes) or that RED comes out with some magic camera that shoots 5K stills and 3K video (windowed, whatever is necessary to keep the price down), all on the amazing RED sensors and in RAW.

No compelling reason for me to buy anything at the moment, so I am content to wait it out. Don't see anything else out there I can afford that I would rather have than a Scarlet.

Waiting.......

Patiently.......:nopity:
