  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Forgotten?

yup!!!!!!!!
Agree 100%. I have shot 16mm film with sync sound, cut it on a flatbed editing system, and gone all the way to an answer print. It's not fun. It's a pain in the ass, and really expensive, and does not give you better results than high end digital, and requires WAY more lighting and crew.

I want the end result image, not the process. Check the gate, and load another magazine? No thanks.

Good news, Jeffrey! It was mentioned Scarlet would be ready to ship at the 11/03/11 announcement. Fits your time table if just barely. Hoping this works for you. Have been feeling your pain.

I think shipping dates are going to be announced on november 3rd, I don't think it's going to ship on that date, or did I get it wrong?

They keep saying they won't announce until ready to ship. Reread the recon threads from last night. I think we are going to be quite happy on 11/03/11!

Yup. This is great news. I almost jumped ship the other day John. Although if there is another change or setback...on the 3rd. Ouch

Jeffery, no change or setback. This is what Jarred said;

Ordering opens November 3rd at 7pm PST, both UK and US.

BOOM!

woah, i knew i was getting intimate in my first post (i'm an artist guys, expect some emotion from me). but now i've just caught up on this thread, and i have to say the emotionality has risen. since i feel a certain responsibility for my thread, i'll say a few words...

guys, i'm all about being honest and sharing how you feel. but that does not mean emotionally-charged, negative posting is acceptable behavior. some people have obviously not read my entire post, or simply misunderstood it. forgive me for making it too long and using some large words, i guess that throws people off. it's been a long trip, but this "are we there yet?" stuff just has to stop. it's for your own good. please find patience, otherwise... don't post. (if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything) this forum is about contributing to the solution, not the problem.

those that are upset, worried, frustrated, etc etc read (not skim) the first post. red is not just a business trying to grab up peoples money for a quick dollar - i sincerely hope those that are thinking so can develop a more trusting worldview. jim is a man about his legacy, that is why i respect him and his team. if you still don't "get it"... email me and i'd be happy to help ya out.

oh and one more thing... told ya so! :)

Do not lose hope. Do not be discouraged. The light shines ahead, and the tunnel's end nears. Friends, we are close. Wisdom from the past five years dictates that we trust Jim's leadership and vision. Take a minute to think about it. He's not once led us wrong. Yes, it is a given and admitted fact that historically the whole "delivery date" thing has been quite definitely and frequently underestimated. But consider how recklessly we tend to pursue instant gratification, only to be just as quickly disappointed. And now consider how even more so, RED has consistently and surprisingly overdelivered on their product specifications and quality. RED is about doing things right, without compromise. Good, not just "good enough".

Silence can be interpreted many ways. Anticipation builds. Do not lose hope. RED is for you. RED is for the future. The future dawns, and the prevailing color on the horizon is a deep, deep RED.

Ordering opens November 3rd at 7pm PST, both UK and US.

You win Paul!

Bart.. it is all about Presentation. Paul, presented his well and respectfully. You haven't been doing such a great job.

Jesus...Bart has invaded this thread too and even annoyed Jarred. I am quite impressed. If I may say so, and am not out of line, Bart, they got this "list," going on...and you don't want to be on it, if you are truly serious about anything RED here on out. Don't mean to speak from the cat's tongue, when I click on the new post button every so often, it's just you that's coming up. I got this headache you see...

Well then I will leave and not post anything anymore, as I guess I have offended ppl or am not speaking right? I guess you can't say anything on here and it's a shame I love RED but now am thinking different with the way I have been treated on here=(

Bart - join date, September 17, 2011; posts = 14 per day. Quality of input = ?? Not sure why you got so chatty about RED after all these years of loving them but I think squawking all over the forum about this, that and the other - with no discernible point to make - is hardly the way to win friends and influence people. It's really, well... just sort of... annoying.

Of course, it IS your perfect right to be annoying! :willy_nilly:

I've said it in a few of my posts before, but I always thought that a lot of the combativeness in the forum was a product of anxiety. The future was not certain, and for many hopeful owners who knew they had to make the absolute best decision on a camera system - and knew they have one chance to do so - that uncertainty leads to insecurity, and it leads to anxiety. ( Paul... I'm in touch with my emotions too :P )

The November 3rd announcement seemed like it should be a sigh a relief. Take a beep breath, and relax. Instead, the hyperventilating persists.

I will say this: we got a huge gift last night, and more than any other company would have given. We all know we have 6 weeks until Scarlet. Use that time constructively. I'll say that if Scarlet had been released 6 months ago, I would have made a mistake on equipment to buy (I'm not just buying a camera, I have to get everything that makes up a camera kit) Do research, debate what you need vs. what you want, look for good alternatives.

Let's not see any more anxiety about Scarlet.

let's not jump on each other, now that Scarlet's in sight.

It's clear now that we were never forgotten. Let's use this time to the benefit of ourselves.

Couldn't have said it better. No wonder Jim and crew keep wanting to stop saying anything. No matter what they say, it isn't good enough and more questions & speculation just ensue. It must be maddening for them. Patience is a virtue.

thanks nathaniel. my best friend from childhood, his name was nathaniel. so i'm gonna go ahead and guess you must be cool.

seriously though, good advice. i'm sure we've all got productive things we can be doing in the next month and a half. i'm writing (and hopefully shooting some r1), so if you see more or less of me, you'll know why.

all you guys are awesome. this is not your ordinary forum, and it can take some adjustment, it seems, when one is used to what is out there. now we've all gotten carried away and been annoying at times, so let's not only be patient towards the things we want to gain, right?

Spoken like a wise prophet! You getting a Scarlet Paul?

@ Richard_JP - Sudbury.

I think holding out is the best way forward, 'cos it'll just be someone's luck if they buy an alternative camera then the following week or so the Scarlet is released. They'll be crying over what they could of had. Personally I don't think there's going to any other camera that's going to touch this for a long while, when you look at all the combined features and functionality of the camera.

I currently hire gear as and when needed. The cost of having to hire in good quality cameras really dents profits, especially when you may only be filming on a one day shoot. With the British weather as well, if you're filming outdoors then you really need a truly professional light-weight camera that is ready to go at any time. Also provide great results in ALL lighting environments.

I wonder what happened after the camera got turned off...

"It's now going to be 4K, which is why we had to do some working on the lens."

Have I been asleep, and missed something??!!

Is the starting resolution of the Scarlets now 4K instead of 3K ??

Since it's an entire month until the November 3rd announcement, people have decided to amuse themselves during that waiting period with wild speculation.

It's also rumored the Scarlet comes in a package with a beautiful camera assistant if you want that option.

It's a JUMP... to conclusions mat...
