  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

All the bad news...

Thanks for the update Jim...the transparency is greatly appreciated. Timing is everything when trying to generate some funds and a little fore-knowlege really helps. I have no problem with waiting; it's more than worthwhile. Sleep easy!

SJ! You are back man! How long where you banned for this time?

Let's try to keep it on topic. This is a post about ETA.

Roberto,

Let's move our discussion at PM or email even better...

I for one was and am still totally blown away by the Red Dragon news. Sure there has been some bad news but the Red Dragon announcement was really awesome. I had completely written off the idea of having a FF camera. And then bam. Wicked. Long term sure. But I'm in no rush. Don't worry Jim, there has been plenty of good news as well.

Actually some good news on the REDVOLT front... we did resolve that part issue Friday.. First batch of REDVOLTS should come in later next week and start going out to EPIC-M customers.

Ironically, the REDVOLT chargers start coming in the week after.. in low quantities.

The reversal of fortune has to start somewhere, I guess :p

It is what it is.

Rushing would involve compromise.

Hopefully the word "compromise" will never creep into the lexicon of Red.

Still love my Red One, and I'm happy to report that #7421MX "Robin Hood" worked with Chris Noth last week.

Is Red Dragon a FF chip? I have not seen any official mention of dimensions. Is FF Red Dragon what Red announced?

Jim, this sucks the big one, in terms of your supplier issues. What can you do... nothing really. Just hang in there. And keep cranking out those Ms.

BTW, does this Japan issue affect your quest for faster SSD media?

Any news on the Epic-S front? Pretty please?

+1.

I Also view this post more as good news than bad news.
But more details about the Epic-s would be greatly appreciated IF possible.
(specs, pricing, packages, it's place in chronology and availability relative in comparison with X and Scarlet Fixed.

Thank you Very Much, and don't worry: there still isn't any camera on the market that matches your program (not even Talking about your way of doing business).

Best regards,

M

Some things are worth waiting for. Even with delays, you are progressing technology 5X faster than anyone else, so I for one have zero complaints.

As has been said a hundred times before, this camera will not be late until your competitors are beating you to market with something at least comparable. No danger that I can see. Stay the course Jim. Keep your health in firm focus.

Remember the old adage. Give me the strength to change the things I can, the serenity to accept the things I can't and the wisdom to know the difference. So much of what you face falls into the second category. Lean a bit on the third...

Ted specifically said RED was not announcing in advance any details about Dragon, not resolution, sensor size, DR, etc. All we know is that it will be awesome.

I think the silver lining to the delay news is that Epic firmware will be super stable/full featured by the time it goes into mass production. Anyone who has already used Epic can attest that it is way more stable than the first REd Ones were and is only getting better.

dont forget to add that this time all the postworkflow is and will be in place when epic x goes out. major advantage.

Bad news is still news

Bad news is still news

In spite of the pressures of waiting, I'm grateful for all the goodness that comes from Red. Tons of resolution, cameras built like a bloody tank, superior gradability, sensor upgrades, color science improvements, SSD dreaminess, endless features born of pure genius and practicality, radical frame rates (300fps at 2k? are you fricken kidding me?), etc.

If only I can make it without hospitalization (or institutionalization) to the moment of receiving my Epic-M tracking number, then I will count it as a character generating exercise. News helps.

I don't know why, but even bad news like this makes me feel better. It gives my intuition something to chew on I guess. It reminds me of the kind of company that Red is. It reminds me to cheer instead of whine. Please keep the news coming and I'll try not to need it so much...

good news is preferred...

Tracking numbers, extra preferred

A telling point. Isn't it true quite a few features aren't yet enabled? In-camera playback, lower resolution modes, stills mode? And sound only got turned on recently? We'll be trading in on Stage 3; if that had happened on-time it might have been happening *now* - and without those features I would probably have to have told RED to wait until the camera was ready... I'd sooner have it too right than too soon.

Mike

Even though there is a lots of delay news, I appreciate that you did let us know what's going on. Happy to hear about Scarlet!

So I still get my Epic-X... Where is the bad news ;) Sorry for those with cash in the bank or @ Red already. Most do not have the need/luxury of waiting as I do. But I can not express how excited I am to get this camera, in its due time.

Thanks for the frank answers and look forward to all the excitement this new tool will bring!

That is correct. Although we hear the alpha build with the lower resolution/super high frame rates is producing stunning footage. In camera playback is definitely something that will make our lives a lot easier but that came pretty late in RED One firmware cycle as well. What's great is that the camera remains stable as new features are added (120fps @5k, sound, etc.) and they are coming at a pretty quick pace now.
