  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

For those of us receiving the new RED PRO (Bomb) EVF, they will be a little very welcome Surprise..
its own little carrying case so cute I wanted to take every were haha.

Red really is taking GREAT CARE of this new Generation of PRO GAEAR!!

Can't wait to get mines..THAKS RED :thumbup1:

For what I have seen, I absolutely think that the New EVF smokes the Original one, even so I loved and still love the original one,
but it is not just about ergonomics and Design :)

So, how easy is it to remove the word BOMB?

Seriously, this is extremely important.

I flew in to LA last week and they made us throw away our bottles of water 10 seconds before boarding the plane. The ones we had just bought at the shops at the gate after going through security. Bottles of water.

I really have no desire to have something called BOMB in my carry-on bag. I don't want to be questioned about it twice on every flight (a likely possibility given random screenings that happen before you get on the plane now as well as the normal security screening). I don't think that black gaffer tape is a good solution either.

If I have to FedEx the damn thing every time I fly somewhere then I am renting locally or buying the RedRock EVF.

So... is the lettering raised? Indented? Can it be sanded off? Will this void your warranty?

Otherwise, excited.

Nice! That looks like a cool case!

To those asking, the Bomb EVF is the same specs as the current EVF, even the same resolution. The difference is weight and size.

You will be able to remove it if you wish to do so Bruce, as the letters are raised.

Welll I don´t think that is entirely true, as far as the specs reads: it comes with "integrated eyepiece heater", hopefully it will keep it a lot more functional in the colder parts of the world. (where the current one says bye-bye shotrly after dropping below freezing)

I believe they improved it in other ways too, but resolution is the same.

And when the TSA discovers that I have gaff taped over the word BOMB, do you have any suggestions on what I should say...?

"Yeah, I gaff-taped over that so you guys wouldn't think it was a bomb" may not be the best response.

Put it the other way: if you were a TSA guy and you let a guy on a plane with something with the word BOMB written on it, which he gaff-taped over... and the plane exploded... would you enjoy spending the rest of your life explaining to the papers why you let it past?

Even if that thing with BOMB written on it was not a bomb... people could use it against you and point fingers at you for not being vigilant. Think of it from their perspective.

And the TSA are mild. Heathrow sucks - they treated my 35mm adapter like it was some kind of pipe bomb last time I went through there.

Let alone a 3rd world country where they could probably use it to extract a bribe out of you. Heck, even somewhere like Ukraine I remember practically being forced to buy government "health insurance" in Ukraine (when I already had perfectly good traveler's health insurance) in order to be let in the country by an unpleasant man with an AK-47.

Or what if you have to ship it back to RED for service and they return it with the gaff tape helpfully removed - and you have to retrieve it from customs in Turkey or China... not fun, I'd imagine.

Again, the words are now written on the inside and are on the bottom part very small,
and IMO very easy to remove, so to each his own choice to do so,
I'm not a employee of RED so don't take my word for it,
but I don't see the warranty been voided for just removing the writing in part or all.
 
So we get the box at no extra cost?

Once a security official at the airport wanted to confiscate my nail clippers. Yes, nail clippers! He regarded it as a weapon and he seemed serious about it.

I requested to speak to a supervisor. I told him that I wanted to report a serious security concern that he should not ignore if he wants to keep his job. I told him that I was terribly concerned that imbeciles are employed as security officers. I mean, if someone is so incompetent that he considers nail clippers a security risk, just imagine what he may NOT regard as a security risk! The security officer is the biggest security risk because, clearly, he makes poor judgement what is and what isn't a security threat.

They returned my nail clippers and appologised.

Having said that, I am not confident this would work in US....I guess not.
