  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Zeiss Supreme Prime series

I'll have a piece to share tomorrow, once Zeiss have shown it first. I'm very impressed with the Supremes. They have character if you want it, and accuracy and clarity when that's the order of the day. Very happy to be adding them to our asset list.

Thanks for posting the links Teddy! It's like zeiss does not want to compete with other lens manufacturers in the larger than Vista Vision market with the Supreme Primes. Or they didn't want to compete with Arri's Signature Prime series of lenses for some reason or other. Maybe to get a certain visual quality from the Supreme Primes, they were limited to a 46.2 Vista Vision image circle.

The Zeiss supreme primes are direct competition to the Arri signature primes... the image circle on the signature primes is actually smaller than the supremes (44.7mm vs 46.2). Neither lens will cover the Alexa 65, you will need the Leica Thalias for that.

David,

Yeah! it seems only "Top Tier" cinema lenses only.

Shot @ 46 second showing some strong magenta CA , unless something else is going on there?

In regards to IQ: Is it just me - or do these seem like half a step forward in rendering transition zone, a side step (artistically) to be a little less clinically sharp than Master Primes /Otus , but then a full step back from Otus re: CA correction? :confused5:
Phil, would love to hear your thoughts on how you found them relative to Otus correction / rendering ? (understand if too soon to divulge though)

I don't think it looks that bad... That what I was talking about with the Monstro video... Personally, I think it looks pretty terrible, almost like the people using it didn't know how to use it. More of the CA with the sensor than the lens.

Lenses look nice but that name is questionable.

Pretty fantastic! And those skin tones look pretty darn slick. Seems like they need to stop down just a tad when they were shooting wide open but none-the-less I thought it looked great. How much is the set in USD for the five lenses?

David,

Not sure about the initial 5 lenses, but the set of six ,including the 100mm scheduled for December, is suppose to be around $108,000 to $112,000.
