I live in Irvine across the street from UCI and on Friday morning on my way to the parking lot, a Hawk had a blackbird or crow between his talons. He just burst out of a bush next to me and flew across the street with plenty of black bird buddies hounding him to get him to let go. You don't have to be in the wilds to see nature at its raw form. Startled the crap out of me.

Hey bri(an?)ferg(uson?), I know what you mean. I heard a thump outside a window and drew the curtains to see a sparrow hawk with an English sparrow in its claw. The hawk was dangling, head doun, while the sparrow was lodged in a crotch of a bush limb. I grabbed my camera and rushed outside to video it and noticed the hawk was only groggy and was coming around.

About that time my dog came around the house and I had to distract the dog so the hawk could make a clean getaway. I noticed later that the hawk left its sparrow behind.

Regretted missing the recovery and subsequent fly away of the little hawk, but was more disappointed in a story told over the holidays.

A woman at our family gathering told how one morning she heard this noise on her roof after a recent snowfall and "rushed outside to see what was the matter." And what to her wondering eyes should appear, but a bunch of squirrels running across the peak of her roof and sliding doun the snow-covered shingles on their bellies. All she was interested in doing was rail at the squirrels for being on her roof. (sigh)

That's the stuff they used to draw cartoons about.

Hi Jim, this is Denis, from France... Great eagle shots, I wonder the distance, and the lens. I ordered your monster for wildlife cinematography purpose.. 2 K at hand with heavy long still nikon lenses, 400m and over, it seems... Please bring booting time even shorter... My next subject will be what's never been done on golden eagles. I've been dreaming of such an instrument like that my life long, but I don't really care falling short of power in a hide halfway up a 400 ft sheer cliff !
Incidentally, you've got a style and a vista of your own, and you make me think that when it comes to future, it's ridiculously naive to be cynical... This should be remembered by Sony. To me, some very new way to achieve things, market products and make win/win business has been proven here. I'm a pure indie, it's not even my full time job and I don't really care about tv...the market is that big ! You might well do for movie making what Henry Ford did to automobile !
Thank's for all, and for giving us what America has in all times been great for... Enthusiasm, dedication, straightforward information and so on... from which we borrow so little here, I'm afraid. I wish my shots were half as good as Jim's. Oh yeah, and I wish I had the balls to walk up to a big eagle and not crap my pants. I took this shot of a harpy eagle from behind the safety of a wire cage. I need to grow a sack and get a RED. My equipment is so weak.
