  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

You want a 4K camera for less than 4K, then don´t buy my R1

I'm selling my RED ONE MX cause I do now have money for an EPIC, but have receive several proposal saying that I'm asking too much cause the RED ONE MX BT with SSD price is lower than 4.000$...

I had to answer to some that if they want to spend less than 4K for a camera, than they should junp and buy a 4K BMC, cause my BT R1, a camera that can debayer true 4K, a camera that made lot's of great movies is not for sale for that price...

Yes, I pay 4.000$ for it, and was very lucky to catch one (thanks RED), they sold the cameras to some of us for 4K, but its doesn't mean that its price value is 4K.

I will not sell it for that price, I refuse to sell my RED ONE MX for the price of a BMC...

I'm selling my complete package for approximatly 10.000$, people are trying to convince me that my package only worth between 6k to 8K...

Am I mad????

The used market will be determined by the buyers not the sellers. If that's all anyone is willing to pay for your package, then that's what your package is worth.

I own a Scarlet and I love it, but if I were to sell my $15,000 package I'd only get about $10,000 on the used market today, $11 or $12 if I was lucky.

That's pretty much exactly what it means. Red set the expectation on the price of Red Ones. Brilliant camera, and an absolute steal for $4000, but they have set the expectation and you can't blame people for not wanting to pay a premium for what would now be a third hand camera.

Don't agree, people still want this camera, I have receive more then 4 proposals, they want it more than they want other 4K cameras, The RED ONE can debayer true 4K.

6 to 8k for the package, with lots of new things bought this year new, no thanks, would keep it for myself as B camera...

I think thats the wisest thing to do if you are not pressed for money. I would keep an r1 for sure. A b cam or 2nd unit a cam. Whatever its a great camera. I say keep it. But the others are right. The buyers dictate used prices.

Humberto I'm with you. Keep it a B camera bro. Especially if it's worth 10K to you and your not hurting for money.
I agree with Daniel as well. The market usually controls the worth of most items (Unless your one helleva salesman).
Heck a Redone MX that was beat to hell and would not power up went for 1300 on ebay just yesterday.
I mean it was all screwed up, didn't come with the PL mount or the side mount AND IT DID NOT EVEN POWER UP.
The market determined it was worth 1300 bucks!

Demand controls value and cost, but then again so do the knuckleheads that are "giving" away their RED Ones for less than $4000. I say keep it. It has a lot more value than what some are willing to pay. If you are in the position to keep it, hang on to it and there will be a "new" market for them as soon as all the low ballers have sold theirs off.

A lot of people sell it, because they feel that they have to. If you don't need the money: keep it!

It's worth more than $4k even without a package. If I were to spend $4K on a camera and could choose between BMC and the RED ONE, there's no real decision to make. It's clear what I would choose.
So either the BMC is too expensive or $4.000 for a RED ONE is not enough. I'd go for the latter.

I´ve decided to keep my 2 Red one.
10,000 is the minimum for me and even that is too cheap!
The cameras still rock. :)

I think people within the europe also forget how much more expensive it actually is. I did not pay 4000 usd for mine but rather 6000 $ with VAT incl! Selling it for 4000 $ would make me lose 2 grand! No way.

Take $4000 and add the cost of the new gear purchased. That should give you a baseline of its "worth," and also tell you what you could sell it for without taking a loss. I sold my MX a while back, love my EPIC, and have no regrets. If I want a B camera they are not to hard to find and I'd prefer an EPIC anyway.

Have 2 Epics, and still love my R1-MX too much to sell. Makes beautiful pictures. Going out on a 3 week job this week also. Gotta love that camera!

As long as the firmware updates keep on coming, keep your RED ONE. That's really all I have to say. If you really need some money, sell it or rent it out a lot but otherwise, keep it. It's useful.

Yes, like me.
Had to pay VAT and other taxes...

Dude, I don't know what you're smoking but if you think a red one mx is worth under $4k, you're nuts! The buyer can only control the market if the cameras are readily available at retail. So unless they are selling red one MX at B&H, RED etc for $4k then it is worth way more than that.

Also, to all these cheap bastards offering such a ridiculous price for the MX, stick to shooting DSLRs.

Congratts on the Epic. Even if I had an Epic tomorrow I wouldn't sell mine based on what I use the R1 for. Everything under the sun from commercials to interviews/ I even recorded a major musical two weeks ago to Red Drives in 4K. Two hour 4k takes without breaking the bank and no over heating or fan noise. Yes the Epic would be better for the commercial work but not the everything I do. The R1 is an amazing camera still.

I tend to disagree. I think 6-8 is a pretty fair price, only because of the amazing offer RED has with the Scarlet.

I agree the R1 is an amazing camera and a great value even at double it's current price. But it would be hard to argue that a R! is worth used anywhere near what a Scarlet costs new.

I own both cameras btw and I agree that in a lot of ways the R1 is a better camera. But a Scarlet is upgrade-able. That is a huge plus.

Just my $0.02

Red One MX we still choose over Epic for many things. We have 4 drives and can shoot 11 hours at 4K RC36 without backing up (Sometimes back-up is impractical for any number of reasons). No fan issues. No issues period. Great sound quality. When on expensive shoots, the One is a back-up cam too. Will be very easy to match with Dragon as B-cam (and is absurdly easy to match now).

We still rent it - I had an offer to sell last year for 10K and it has earned 10K since then.

I got a bicycle as a gift, so it cost me $0. Does that mean it's worth $0?
