Hello everyone, I am testing the waters to see how many people would be interested in doing a group by on the Xeen Cine Lens set (24mm, 50mm, 85mm).

I spoke with Xeen today and they are interested in setting up a group buy - no pricing yet.

Mainly I just wanted to see how much interest there is.

Thanks

Tommy

I'd be interested.

Likewise, I could be interested if you can get a great a discount.

I already own the cine versions of some of the Rokinons and I like them a lot, especially for the price. Xeens looked interesting to me until Milvus was announced shortly afterwards.

You can get a Milvus 50mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.4 for $3000 and those seem to be very sharp, good lenses. And you know they have to have a Milvus 35mm 1.4 coming... and Sigma has to be planning to make a cine set soon too.

The best way to react is to do a good Xeen group buy with a healthy discount, I say!

As much as I love Zeiss, for whatever reason, none of the E mount lenses have a manual aperture. Deal Breaker.

So this thread is to feel out the interest. What I was told already if we have enough buyers it will be significantly lower than the $600 per lens reduction they did recently. How much I don't know.

Sounds promising. For them it is a good way to get the lenses introduced to higher end users, not necessarily Hollywood productions but the broader indie level market.

I think that they are planning to lower the price anyway . Trying to bump the price on a product 5 times is very difficult. I think they strategy was to aim really high, analize the blowback and make the adjustment. since the price resistance was very significant on the web now it's the time to make the price adjustments. And they want to make some extra sales before they do. Smart, but may not work. I would just wait for the global price drop and avoid the GB drama. but that's just my take on Rokinon strategy....;-)
Not to mention that they'll get the buzz going from here out to the web....

What I'm saying is that they have been selling $500 lowest priced lenses and that's what the market is associating them with.
Now they are trying to go up market with $2500 Lenses. Added value aside (I personally think that there is that amount of added value or more but really who cares what I think- I will not be buying them)
The market perception going that much higher will be very difficult to change. It's much easier to go down market than up market.
