  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

After beeing called a scam in what 2007 I think it's great to see all the awesome work that is shot on RED products.

And to me, the biggest advantage of the RED Cameras is Redcode. It's amazing how you guys can manage to compress 'that much' without losing the visual quality of the RAW image. That, and the sensor, and the guts of the cameras and... Ok, you guys, are wizards !
 
If you've grown up on the comics or enjoyed any of Singer's X-Men films, this one's going to be a good one.

The whole cast is stacked to the ceiling with star talent. Oscar Isaac's acting career has absolutely exploded into awesome as well.

So true, and so well deserved. Loved him in "inside llewyn davis" but I haven't seen ine bad performance from him yet. (Ok, I haven't seen all of the movies he played in ;) )

Mostly yes, me too... But Sophie Turner as Jean Grey? That will be interesting for me to see if she can pull it off. Haven't seen any performance outside of GoT from her yet.
 
Maybe we can begin to break up the Alexa as God perception. Alexa is a great camera but so many people feel it is the ONLY camera. If we start promoting non 3D films that use Dragon and Weapon origination perhaps this prejudice can be destroyed once and for all.

Jarred keep up the posts about films that originate on RED and also get the word out to the industry. Even my Netflix exec says Alexa is the best even though Netflix films cannot originate on Alexa 35.

I've been trying to get real facts to people who only use Arri cameras and only think they are good enough. The problem is that facts doesn't matter, comparisons or even tricking people and exposing them liking Dragon images doesn't work. Most of them doesn't care about facts, technological knowledge or even learning tricks with anything other than what they know... In the end I've given up trying to discuss this with them, cause they are so baised that the whole conversation gets retarted. I could present all the strong sides of shooting Dragon, I could compare it to Alexa, point out the future-proofness, point out that their bad experience with Dragon might be because they didn't have people understanding the format or camera etc. but in the end they just shut down thier perception behind a iron wall of "but I just don't like it".

So I'm agreeing that the only way to get baised people to understand that Red is a good system, is to show beautiful footage that isn't filled with CGI or extreme grading. Things that have a feeling of natural beauty, an organic look. All those things that cinematographers like about 35mm film and Alexa footage.
I mean, the color science is there, the resolution and ability to do great images. The only thing lacking is the kind of stories it's used for.

It's clear that Red has been used mostly for blockbuster CGI-spectacles. Or extremely stylish graded action films. In order to get the same level of "respect" as Arri has for digital cinema, the spotlight need to be put more on independent films, beautiful dramas etc. Things that doesn't "scream" Dragon all over it. It's almost as if it's possible to read a list of films produced during the last year and without seeing any images, just looking at the story description you could spot what films are shot on Red and what is shot on Arri (or others). Focusing and highlighting movies shot on Red that doesn't "feel like" films shot on Dragon is a good way to show baised people that Red isn't just for action films and CGI-spectacles.

I don't need to check it. My point is that these films need to get more spotlight on them, cause Red cameras need to be normalized as a common tool in all cinematography, just like Alexa is. If we only spotlight CGI blockbusters and action flicks being shot on Red then those who claim Red can't be used for "art" films or drama will continue that crusade, trashtalking red cameras. Why am I fighting that kind of battle you wonder? Well, when you own a Red camera you really want to get the jobs for it and when almost the entire community trash talks Red while praising Alexa based on nothing more than a lack of knowledge combined with fanboyism it ends up hurting the business. Especially in a country where blockbusters, CGI-driven films and 4K delivery is almost completely lacking. I don't know how many times I've heard complete bullshit from people when I've asked if people need help with camera equipment; "Oh, you own a Red, no we want Alexa because it's better". So my crusade to educate these people on when and why Red is superior is very rooted in getting jobs for it. When almost every production is drama, lower budget and art films it's hard to get people to choose Red over Alexa.

Yeah, exactly... would be good to compile a list of "traditional films" shot on Red. That way when the arguments begin we would have a lot of heavy weight to counter the "Alexa is always better because Red is only for CGI films" mentality (I know that it sounds ridiculous, but I hear it many times). The ones so far are mostly TV series like The Knick, House of Cards etc. Gone Girl and Social Network are great film examples as well.
