  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Wooden Camera Quick Back

How does the plate attach to the back of scarlet/Epic camera? I understand the four holes but does it hold onto the V pocket. Still worried of snapping.

Is there any pictures of it? I saw the YouTube video but I didn't see the back of the Quick plate. I heard a "clicking" sound as Ryan attached it to the camera. Very cool.

Caden, it "snaps" on the back via two spring release clips. If you are looking to put heavier loads on the Quick Back, Wooden Camera recommend using the supplied 4 bolts to securely attach it to the camera.

I've been using it for over a week with a single V-Mount battery attached without the 4 support bolts and it's holding up just fine. If you put something like a 225Wh battery on there I'd probably recommend bolting to be secure.

Considering all the connection points on the back of the Epic, surely there might be a way to power the camera through one of these "back" devices? Red obviously has power modules coming out, so I'm wondering why no one has made a plate like this that feeds power through the back of the Epic, rather than through a power cable into the camera?

Second that. That is suprising. Must be a good reason...

Lemo is Lemo is Lemo.

Anyone can buy the specific cable and put it onto their system. Red's module/redmote docking port is entirely proprietary. I wouldn't be surprised if the Pro i/o & battery modules don't require a cable.

Has anyone figured out a way to use the battery plates with a shoulder mount setup? Some sort of way to attach to rails for counterbalance would be great. I'm sure it's possible, it's just hard to tell spacing and orientation of screw mounts on the plates and quick back.

Ian, Element Technica sells plats made for attaching to a number of ET and Red rail mounts. Ryan at Wooden Camera has informed me that the next batch of battery back ($79) will include strategically placed 1/4 20 holes for rail mounts.

I'll probably buy one now (to power the lonely Scarlet that arrived today), then the updated one later, so switching between camera quick back and shoulder mount counterweight clip is simultaneous.

Just bought the anton bauer wooden camera back assembly, i was told on the phone that it is out of back order. What batteries would you/anybody recommend? I try to shoot light(er) but I am keeping in mind cost.

Ordered 3 components from WC last night - shipped today complete. Cool

I also ordered it today and already shipped. Super Fast!

Jack, I'm bored at work, here you go--

98 WH bricks will power the camera for 1.5 hours and take 3 hours to charge--assuming your charger is as good as the best AB chargers. Redvolts last 30 min and need 1.5 hrs to charge. Assuming an 8am call time and a camera that runs all day(my norm):

3HoursIn: You've gone through both batteries, your 1st battery has 1.5 hours left to charge. Use up three redvolts.

4.5HoursIn: You've gone through three and a half redvolts, and your 1st battery of the day is now charged again. 2nd battery needs 1.5 hours to finish charging.

6HoursIn: 2nd battery dies, 1st battery still needs 1.5 hours to charge. Use your three unused Redvolts. (With one redvolt charger, you have 1 recharged from earlier)

7.5HoursIn: 1st battery is ready. 2nd battery needs 1.5 hours to charge.

9HoursIn: 2nd battery is ready. For every RedVolt charger you have, you have Redvolt plus the one from earlier.

10.5HoursIn: 2nd battery dies, 1st battery needs 1.5 hours, how many redvolts do you have? If you only have 1 charger, you have 2 Redvolts ready to go. If you have 2 chargers, you have 3.

12HoursIn:Redvolts kick, 1st battery is ready.

This is assuming you're not running an external monitor (1/5 the Scarlet's power draw) or any other accessories. Looks like you're good. Me I went with three 90W Beillen and 2 160W Beillen with %age LCD display, because all of the above assumes you have constant power, and sometimes I don't.

@Ryan: that's funy

I bought a second charger when I saw the recharge time vs burn rate (I was getting like a 6:1 charge to burn time ratio). Someone needs to make/sell a 4 place RED Volt charger

Ryan,

Thanks for that!
I did a similar calculation and realize if I dont have power for charging (i.e. the indy film im shooting in the subway) I will be needing more AB's...renting/borrowing is my only option at this point bc I am offically "all-in".
