Buying a new computer. Just wondering if this is something you guys are using?
I'm still at Windows 7 at home, while using Windows 8 at work.
Does it work well with Adobe programs, Davinci, Nuke, Maya etc?
Cheers!

I upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10 a few weeks ago. so far, Premiere, After Effects, Resolve, Maya 2016 (I do not own nuke to try, sorry), all work in windows 10 flawlessly so far. Unfortunately the work I do in audio engineering, cubase 8 is not recommended for windows 10 yet...probably not relevant but still....that makes me mad.

Which is why I have a second SSD with windows 7 until I get a 100% compatibility rate with all my software. I suggest all do the same.

Upgraded all my systems about a month after it's release. Minor bugs here and there, but working fine for work related things.

I'm running 8.1 for work purposes.

Generally, I like to wait for the new OS to be out for a year. Let everyone else beta-test it :)

No harm having a partition or boot drive with 10 installed, as long as you can fall back.

But then we've been that way since, oh, SGI Irix.

Just read today MS will no longer be selling Windows 7 or 8.

Did the update from 7 to 10. Had some weird permissions and codec issues.
So I ended up doing a clean install of 10 and haven't had a problem. Using the system with Resolve 12.

I did a clean install - my old Win 7 installation had become too polluted. Minor teethes, but flowing well.
Make sure that you take a backup of your old security credentials or you will never unencrypt your old files. You also need to get the 'take ownership' hack that puts it in the context menu.

Here's how to save your security credentials

Here's the 'take ownership' hack

I've got to say, though, that even on a complete fresh install Premiere is an unreliable, frustratingly annoying pile of dog eggs.

I think I will keep Win 8.1 for now. I checked and Pro Res is not supported and Avid is not supported which isnt' so good. Seems like its fairly easy to upgrade.
Cheers

Just thought I would post an update. I decided to go with windows 8.1 for now. The reason is that I'm using Pro Tools for sound editing (sometimes, exporting can be a pain).
And Pro Tools is not supported on Windows 10, neither is Avid Media as I understand.
Anyone tried them?
I think I will just wait 6-12 month with upgrading to Windows 10.

I updated this past week, and I mostly happy with it now.

I use the built in administrator account, and enabled UAC through regedit that allowed me to run any of the built in apps.

I also removed all the tiles from the start menu by individually right-clicking on each and selecting remove. Once you remove all of them, it turns the start menu into a somewhat of a more classic style start menu.

I disabled windows defender through services, and uninstalled annoying tiles such as the Get Office and Twitter. I've also been able to get rid of most notifications.

For the most part, everything seems to be working except for Google Drive Sync for Desktop with the Windows 1511 update. But I feel like Google Drive not working is more than a coincidence than a random issue. It's been problematic on my laptop too.

I prefer manual updates, the only way to skip out on that is change the settings on your wifi to a metered connection. Although, I don't believe it doesn't work on wired connection.

Just upgraded two Windows 8.1 machines... pushed all the sliders to NO during setup. No problems so far with Adobe CC but haven't done much with that yet. Three more machines (2 laptops and a desktop) running Windows 7 I think I'll just leave alone for now... maybe update later.

Two Vista machines that I seldom use that aren't eligible for the free upgrade. I'll not bother with them.

Sounds promising. Looks much better. I will wait a few months and then probably upgrade. 8.1 works but is pretty annoying with all the full frame aps.
