  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Will new RED Lenses EVER come back in stock???

I have the same impression from the RED team posts that the RED lenses are gone - they cite that there are many Cine glass options now available that just didn't exist 2-3 years ago. I have a full set of the RPP's (18mm through 300mm) and two of the zooms, and I really like them.

However - two nights ago the Schneider Rep held a get together here in Toronto to show off the new Cine-Xenar III & the Xenon FF and the Xenon FF's are going to be winners. Right price point ($4K each) and they will cover Dragon. Only problem is you may wait a while since they have already sold 6years worth of production and they haven't hit the streets yet. But he did say that they are building a new shop to build these and that those wait times will drop quickly as they ramp up to meet demand.

My -limited- impression of the Xenon FF's is that they are waaay better than the Zeiss CP2's in every aspect. All T2.1, all the same weight, all the same length, all cover a 45mm image circle.

Same thoughts here Glen and I also own the Cine-Xenar IIIs for that matter. Those Xenon-FF Primes are going to be in high demand for sure.

There's more options on the way soon too. The glass market exploded into a very different industry in the last 3 years. The trick is sifting through the "eh" glass and finding the "yeah" glass.

Had a great time with Ryan Avery from Schneider at the meetup. Don't worry Phil, we didn't talk too much behind your back (hee hee). I got a tonne of back info on both the Xenars and FF primes. I was surprised at how similar those two lenses weigh despite the different sizes. I suggest people get on that waiting list now!

You should all be happy for the RPP's that you have, as I think when they might become real gems in the future, even more so if there is more new lines made. Having the whole set with zooms and primes will be quite a collectors item. I think 20 years from now we will all say "why o why did I not just buy a few sets, they did not cost more than pocket change back in 2013" :)

Björn - if you're throwing around pocket change, you could throw some into my PayPal account. That'd be great; thanks!

Those are some big pockets!

(Heh, heh... just joking Bjorn. Point well taken)
