  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Why to not like RED...

You make life much more interesting! Every morning I wake up like it's Christmas because I know on one of those mornings I will see it
- YOUR STAGE 2 EPIC X IS READY TO SHIP-

Jim, if I remember correctly, our's is just a dyslexic version of your RED ONE S# (2434/2343). We just happily received our allotment email last night... you can't be far behind.

I'm hoping and believe just as Red One and Red Epic have pushed and confused major motion picture camera manufacturers that Scarlet will do the same for the larger markets. For a very long time the buyer has been given incremental upgrades and has had to make compromises in terms of image quality.

Red has consistently been manufacturing the highest end technology in the motion picture industry for two cameras running. A bumpy road, but nonetheless, the bleeding edge is often dangerous. Yet we all have been rewarded with highly functional and powerful image making tools that produce fantastic results.

I have little doubt that if Red didn't move ahead with 4k early on that 1080p/2k would still be "all the rage". But for those forward thinkers behind the curtains at Red, they pushed the envelope and made giant leaps forward. I remember way back then that "Red wanted to create a legitimate replacement for film". The timing was dead on. The technology was right. And hell, even the cameras look cool.

I give you one reason why I don't like RED. Telling them you like RED it's an understatement...

I LOVE RED. I ADORE THEM. They are the best in what they do. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to see it all... Nov 3th

"5. There isn't enough info available. RED is short on written support, manuals and training tools."

Very valid point and good that you are aware of this. Although there is much information scattered over this forum (and probably many other sites), it could be improved. Manuals, more detailed information about your products and the dozens of little accessories that are available, video tutorials on Redcine-X Pro, examples and best practices on cameras, howto's... It would be great if you will surprise us on this part as well!

It's funny to me how ALL camera and video companies can't seem to manage producing web based video support tutorials. Like a tech just going through the menus and explaining why they wrote the code the way they did and what I need to know. No one does. Now, if your were in the market for let's say how to cook a gourmet meal . . . there are hundreds of vids for that!

Try getting this open, honest, direct, blunt communication -- directly to the customers -- from the founder of the company. Doesn't happen much, if ever, and certainly NOT in this industry ..... bring it on Jim.

Jim

This thread reminds me of Eminem's last battle in the film 8 mile.

It's disarming to the competition to let them know; that you know what they think they know and have, that they think they can use to hurt you somehow, can't hurt you because you already know and accept it.

Warning. The previous sentence needs to be read out loud twice to fully understand.

David

Jim, you truly are an inspirational leader. One that leads but also encourages and takes on board what those around him are saying. I've seen many leaders who do nothing but their own agenda and don't accept any input, no matter how good it is. Thank you for making us all feel like a part of the RED family, even those of us who don't own a RED camera...yet :) We're all behind you 100%. Blessings.

Jim and the RED Team. Think of it this way.

While you are striving and busting your ass day in and day out to make 4k the new standard, or pushing the limits with 5k, you are showing other companies who would be too scared to do so, that it can be done.

You ARE changing the future of movies. Single handily your company and workers and showing people that settling for something is not enough.

Haters gonna hate. But while they are hating, they are wishing and hoping and praying that they could be exactly like you guys.

So, keep it up.

As a stills guy it was the DSMC concept that intrigued me and I have been following RED ever since.......you could say I've become hooked.......and I continue to admire and greatly respect what Jim and his great team have achieved in just a few short years.

Epic though is just too much camera for me (and note that word "me", it doesn't mean "you" or anyone else necessarily :) ), so I'm personally hoping that Scarlet, or Epic -S or whatever, will be closer to what I originally hoped for back in the days when there was an S35/FF35 in the Scarlet family. For me (that word again :) ) that means something a little smaller and lighter than Epic M/X but with a sensor more suited to the S side of DSMC than perhaps the original 2/3rds would be. I'm really looking forward to November 3rd (reserved Brit remember, so no SoCal style whoopin' and hollerin' here :)) ) but have no real idea of what might turn up........who know's, but as a wild guess wouldn't a Monstro technology sensor in the new camera and the Dragon (Monstro) upgrade for the current Epic be a nice surprise.

We have hoped to engage the competition in a battle of specs. It only helps the customer.

Jim

It's a turning point in RED history.

That means RED should listen only to RED Users, become the main player or should list somebody else (kind of engineers) and become just one of marginal players.

RED users in the last 5 years told enough here to RED Team how they would like to have a camera but still that didn't happen.

There are some specs that the competition already have but RED still not.

But we'll see what Nov 3rd could bring...

Why should you guys care anyway? You still make the best (and cheapest, beat that) motion picture camera in the world. There will always be those who complain about some Leica glass being a little soft and going with Zeiss. With RED there is no alternative, really. It is the best gear there is, period, and evil tongues will always find a hole to pick.

Jim

I think your competitors can think up many many reasons to not like RED with #1 being their behind hurts from all the ass kicking RED sends their way. ;)

7. RED is always late. This could actually be #1. RED says October. By the time it is done it is June two years later. Valid complaint.
However, when you push the envelope as much as RED does, a delay is inevitable. Therefore, the "always late" complaint is ruled, NOT valid.
