I just felt the need to put it in writing... Here are the things I love about Epic.
(They are not in order of importance).

Longer life off batteries, can use RED batteries, or others.
This is huge, it will be so nice to get long run times off a full size battery. It will also be cool to have lots of choices. I'm guessing RED will still not talk to AB batteries, but nevertheless, I love that I have so many more choices in this area now, and that I can go for 2 hours or more on a standard battery if needed!

REDMote
This is the most underestimated piece of kit in my eyes. I think you will see almost every camera manufacturer copy this at some point. It's huge. Sometimes I worry it's too good to be true and will not do everything RED hopes it will. I LOVE the REDMote

More Frame Rates
This one speaks for itself.. Gonna be cool

Pro I/O module & Built in HD-SDI
I love the Pro I/O module, but what I love even more is that I do NOT have to use it because RED did put an HD-SDi and other things on the brain of Epic. This is going to provide for a lot of cool options. It will also allow me to keep control of the weight when needed.

720p or 1080p Out (Clean)
Full debayer, top quality clean HD-SDI Outs... It does not get any major than this. The flexiblity of the camera just increased 10 fold right here. Also, I'm not aware of any other camera company that made it's HD-SDI out switchable between these two resolutions!

There's so much more. I'm very excited I was able to get into Stage 2

Yeah the 10-15 second boot time is a good one.. I look at that as more of a "fix".

Autofocus with touch-screen.. Gotta see that to have an opinion on it.

Canon Mount.. You got that buddy!

Jay

dual CF card loader so you can finally hot swap CF cards without interrupting a take... better SSD solutions. RED RAM was hard to get, and ultra expensive... redcode 250... if 10:1 compression looks so good right now, what's 5k like with mathematically lossless compression? I think my eyes my bleed out from their sockets.

well the beauty is you can set your compression levels to whatever your needs are, but higher bitrate was ultimately required for the pure resolution and framerates. 120 fps at 5k, worth some more hard drives space :)

Add the size of the Epic to the list .

For me the light weight and small size is fantastic. A minimalist setup with the Canon mount is a dream.

Edit: Kwan beat me to it. 5K @ 5 lbs.

Modularity... meaning this is the last "camera" I will probably ever buy. I'll just buy the new parts I need.

Jay,

I would have thought the H.264 proxy module would be at the top of your list. Make a copy and off to the client she goes.

David,

I am happy about this... But... It was announced pretty late in the game and to be completely honest, I am not all that sure when it will turn up.

Also H.264 is horrible when it comes to sound, so I am not sure how that is being dealt with in regards to RED's module. For the 5D we have to use a separate sound recorded.. It's that bad.

You MIGHT be right.. But I just don't know enough to get excited about it yet.

Just remember there are many flavors of h264, there was a huge up in quality from just the 44 khz going to 48 khz in the DSLR's with the new firmware. You can have uncompressed audio on h264 or something comparable. RED is known for having amazing compression methods :)
