  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Who shipped their scarlet for a EPIC-X?

The scarlet to epic upgrades are entirely new bodies.
 
I got my Scarlet #02507 traded in to Epic X #05642.

After the payment was done, the process was shorter than expected. World-class service, thanks to everyone at RED!

Before I picked it up in Irvine, I went to the "Great Park", and did the Balloon ride. See my Panorama (DSLR shot), this is the area where all REDs are build.

Red Scarlet-X 732 Vi'deo became Red Epic 5787 Vendetta...may Vi'deo find a good new home :)
 
Just pulled the trigger.. Daisy's been good to me, looks like I have a little bit to come up with a name for the new girl. So damn excited.

I thought somewhere RED stated that they do not honor 3rd-party warranties?

I think its just an incentive to use the card. Check with your provider but my Visa claims on business equipment they are willing to double the manufacturers warranty if paid on a card in full, along with fraud protection and all kinds of other incentives to sway me into it. Reckon Red doesn't have to honor anything and its Visa flipping the bill. I called them up and questioned them about the process and they claim they are legit and that my new epic would then have a two year warranty...but hell if I really know if and when it ever came time to use it. I just don't have my insurance able to cover it when boards randomly die and I paid the last one out of pocket so I was trying to extend my warranty the only way I saw possible since Red Armor isn't sold for trade ins... How fast is the turn around for you guys with the trade ins?

that's the only way my friend,
when you get your Epic at Canada boarder, Customs will charge you for the full amount - 13% from $17,500 USD;
then you go to Canada Customs website, fill B2G application, assuming that you still have that paperwork from receiving your scarlet, and you mail the claim for the original tax paid for the Scarlet return;
but weather you'll get it, or not - that's another story
 
Wow thats too bad about the tax. Too bad they can't use a warranty upgrade in the label and send it that way.

Does anyone know or heard how long this upgrade will be offered? If I do upgrade looks like I will be about a month or so away.

They tried to do that with me but I went to Canadian customs near the FedEx office and explained my situation. I had the original paperwork
From FedEx proving the original Scarlet went back. I saved on brokerage too since I did it myself while I was there.
 
Nice, good idea Bob. I also went to clear my Scarlet at customs, and being young, they wondered why I was buying an expensive camera. Can you tell me, while on the subject, does it mater if I am using it for business? I have said personal use in the past. Thanks a lot!

Hey Bob,
can you please let me know what office did you go to, and maybe even a Canada customs officer you dealt with?
cuz i call Canada customs, and according to them the only way for a shipment to be released from customs to Fedex is to pay customs fees,
of cource i send them airway bill , and original tax reciept i paid a year ago for Scarlet, but you know how to talk to them :)

Daniel. I said I was a filmmaker and yes it's for business. The idea of upgrading cameras is new to them. They think we are trying to scam them somehow. I explained to them what RED does and they finally understood. This was at the customs office near the FEDEX headquarters in mississauga.
 
When the shipment arrives at FEDEX, tell them you will deal with customs yourself. Go to FEDEX and grab the necessary paperwork that you need for customs. They will print some stuff out for you. Take this to the customs office which is about a 5 min drive from there. There explain your situation, and if all is good, you will out your own brokerage forms at the self terminal. Then you pay there. hopefully only on the 9.5K.

I wonder if having a FEDEX Business account helps.
 
any idea how long the line is on Epic trade ups week wise? im trying to figure out how soon i need to sign up for it because i got my friends brain at a rental house until i get mine to swap it with, and hes going for dragon so i was trying to figure out when i should order basically....thanks

thanks man,
i don't think it'll work for me, cuz i recieved mine quite a while ago, but let's see if i can do that post dated,
even after i showed them all paperwork they made me pay $2350,
well, i'll get back to them at the tax time :)
