I have seen the short clip of felix, and a couple of stills in the past. But I was wondering if there was going to be a short or some other updated footage coming out from the scarlet! I saw on an NAB interview of Ted , that one of the reasons they have not yet, is they have not put the camera in the hands of someone capable of making a great test short or footage.

I am curious when this will be! If final specs are not out yet, I understand that (even though I am DYING to know them!!) And I understand RED is extremely busy with production of the Epic Ms and the Epic X. But I was hoping that soon, RED could pass the scarlet off to a trusted film maker, and take a couple of nice shots to post. I think this would be most exciting to see!

Either way, test footage soon or not, RED, you guys are doing a fantastic job, and making fantastic stuff! Especially among the obstacles tossed your way! I thank you RED for giving hope to a little company like mine, to make motion pictures of outstanding quality without the huge price tag!

Cheers!

I agree. It would be very exciting to see something come from a Scarlet! :yesnod:

I think that the first 5 people to respond here should get to test out the scarlet.

Lol, what about the guy who started the post? haha. No but really. I would be really excited to see that. I hope soon we can see something. And I don't care which talented crew shoots it, I would just enjoy to see what my future camera can do. :)

5! 5! 5! I posted, get me in on that :-P That would be a dream...can't wait to buy one. The only reason I wouldn't is b/c it's been pushed back for long enough for me to save up for an EPIC :-P

It wouldn't surprise me if you weren't the only one to make that statement. It also makes a lot of sense that the guys who's been saving up since the original SCARLET(S) announcement (and that would possible have grown to a lot of money by now!), would make the jump for the EPIC-S or EPIC-X. Kinda like a bonus for the long wait, hehe. But seriously, I think a lot of the Scarlet-crowd initially wanted the Scarlet to make a jump from inferior interchangealble "prosumer-tech". So when RED announced that the fixed was going out first, some might consider to use their money on for example the bigger brother EPIC-S instead - since that gives them everything that they ever dreamed of with the interchangeable Scarlet - and then a whole lot more!!! There's also the matter of the size of the sensor that some might feel is too much of a compromise to what they crave for NOW, and not what they needed 4-5 years ago. I guess that more than a few of the people who first began to save up for the Scarlet, have grown as artists and professionals and are in a position where they might have certain needs and requirements that the Scarlet can't sufficiently offer them anymore (I'm not saying that you're "unprofessional" if you choose to work with the SCARLET!!!).

Although I greatly applaud the release of the Fixed and all it offers and is able to deliver to a LOT of people, I'm REALLY considering doing the same as you, Chase :)

That's not a dis by the way...I literally have saved up enough to buy the EPIC, I just don't know if I should spend it all, or save up more, or get a nice little Scarlet package :-)

If you aren't a freak about super shallow depth of field and/or 5K resolution, you will be more than impressed with the Scarlet's performance. I know I am. As it stands now, I'd rather shoot Scarlet over the EPIC...

+1. I like Scarlet's format and all around Swiss army knife functionality.

I'd really like to work with my collection of lenses with an Epic-S in the future, But I'll certainly say the same as Joseph and start with the Scarlet.

Joseph, you used the Scarlet Fixed in the open. You even had the footage in your hand. Can you share some of it or are you not allowed (yet) to share ?

Though I'm personally not too concerned about the sensor-size and compromise of shallow DOF (almost the same as 16mm - though restricted by the fixed aperture limit) on the SCARLET Fixed, I also have the same concerns about lenses. I fully agree, SCARLET will possibly be the best high end pro-entry-level camera solution out there! And though I appreciate the functionality and extreme quality of the fixed zoom lens on the SCARLET-F that RED practically is giving away for FREE with the SCARLET-F, I've become a little too acustomed working with 16mm and 35mm lenses - so much so that I'm afraid that I would feel creatively restricted by the Fixed. As with film stock (yes I'm a dinosaur), picking out certain lenses that contribute differently to the visuals on my projects is something that means a lot to me personally as an artist. It's of course very subjective and everyone has their own approach to things :) If you're going for the "Swiss Army Knife" of high end professional film cameras - SCARLET Fixed is probably the one that'll do the job!!

Yeah I know what you mean. My main reason would be PL lenses...my company is not at the point to afford them or even rent them on a regular basis. But working with my DSLR and my love for shallow DOF...I gotta have my scarlet interchangeable! Those mini pro primes look like they can do the trick ;)

I agree Joseph! If you are able/allowed to divulge any information, that would be awesome, I would love to learn more about its current abilities. :D

While we wait... since we have nothing better to do... care to elaborate?

Speaking for myself, I want a Scarlet specifically as a replacement for a 16mm film camera. I like the format. Ideally one of each, a fixed and a cinema. Prefer to get a Cinema first as I already have vintage 16mm lenses covering from 3.5mm to 240mm. The size, weight, and speed of the lenses make the 2/3" format a lot more solo shooter friendly for most purposes. The entire field rig from tripod to camera and lenses can be significantly lighter for any given setup.

Steve Gibby reported that his Epic-M setup with 150-600mm T5.6 Canon weighed in at 23lbs. Scarlet Cinema with an Angenieux 12-240 T5.6 giving equivalent long end range and much wider on the short end would weigh about half that. A field rig for a nature day hike including a couple of wide angle primes, backpack, and the tripod would weigh about the same as Gibby's camera and lens.

Sorry for the little off, but does anybody know that how will i can mount for example M42 lenses to the Scarlet Interchangeable? Or any other kind of lensen?

No need to rub it in, mate ;)
