I ordered my REDRAY months ago, right around the same time everyone else did. Still no sign of it being shipped. I emailed my BOMB Squad rep and he can't give me an estimated shipping date.

What I find unreasonable is that "pre-orders" are claimed to be shipping 2-3 weeks from the order...if that's the case, I would have had my REDRAY back in June.

I never pull the "one of the first 1000 customers" card in times like these, and I never will. I'm just looking for a good solid date for when it will be shipped.

So what happened here? RED has manufactured what I assume are hundreds of these things (from what I remember in one of Jarred's factory photos), yet, still no sign of mine...and I'm supposed to have ODEMAX content on it very soon.

*sigh*

Can anyone give me any insight?

The press releases from the past couple weeks have been saying REDRAY is in a "closed beta". I have not heard of anyone receiving one since that first batch went out.

That explains a lot. Like Justin Kirchhoff I've been wondering where things were in the delivery process. I assume if it is in beta, there is the possibility of tweaks or changes?

Knowing you have one Justin, if there are any changes being made and if you can talk about them, would appreciate any updates here.

Elsie, I was just borrowing Tonaci's and it is out on a job right now so unfortunately I don't have any new info to give.

Justin, Odemax apparently sent out a press release as there have been a bunch of posts made in tech mags around the web. https://twitter.com/ODEMAX/

There has been one firmware update thats just been some UI tweaks and stability improvements, all under the hood type stuff from what I can tell.
The REDRay Encoder plugin has also been updated once since mid june and that was also under the hood and some better compression tweaks from what I can tell.

Thank you, Justin, for the insight. I apparently missed this press release. It may have gotten lost in my e-mail. Maybe I'm more upset at the fact I'm one of the ODEMAX 100 and haven't been able to participate just yet.

All in beta. ODEMAX is in the process of bringing their services online and most of us in the first shipment of players have yet to be able to access their service.

As for the encoder software, it's very much in beta as well. It seems to be working well, but does not yet support a full range of common frame rates and a few other things it will need before going out to everyone.

If it puts anyone's mind at rest, Red have been very proactive about seeking input from those who have taken delivery. There's work to be done but they seem solidly on it :)

I'm starting to edit a project that will playback on one of the 84" Sony XBR900 screens. Trying to figure out what to edit the project at. Does RedRay play back files at 4096x2304 or just 3840x2160? Premiere Pro doesn't want to play back UHD sequences, but works at 4096x2304 just fine.

I am also still waiting delivery of my RED RAY player. In the meantime, is there anyone based in Europe who can rent us one for the period Oct 1st-10 th to display our shows
at the upcoming MIP COM ? PM if necessary.

Is it possible to upgrade the hdmi 1.4 to 2 by software? Or how you playback hfr movies in 48 and 50p on it?

Right now you can only encode 4096 X 2160 with RRencode. REDRAY then down scales to whatever size panel you have plugged in.

Pretty sure that when you encode 3840 x 2160 now - it puts it in a 4096 x 2160 container - but plays out 3840 x 2160 without scaling - but I guess I should confirm that.

What file format should I use to feed the Red encoder? I am in Resolve ready to export my UHD 3840x2160 timeline that will be played on the Sony 84" 4K screen. My thought was QT ProRes4444. Not sure if the Red encoder would take advantage of the 4444 color space or not (otherwise I could just use 422HQ).

We are waiting for our 2 RedRay players to show up - they will be feeding two of the Sony 84" 4K screens in our hotel lobby behind the check-in desk. We have scenic footage of the area around the resort that we shot with Epic that will be playing on the screens!

I have been encoding 16bit DPX at 4K 36Mbps (highest quality) .RED through the RRencoder Plugin, which you'll get a license for when you receive your REDRAY Player.

This produces rather nice results :) You can also use TIFF or the native REDCODE RAW if you graded through Redcine-X Pro.

There are intstruction in the manual on how to append audio files if you do use image sequences. It's fairly trivial.
