Hi you awesome folks!

I’m a proud owner of Red camera’s (2 Komodo’s) and i’m about to purchase a Mac pro 2019

I did not opt out for the The XDR display Apple sells and that set me off to find a Good quality Monitor and what a rabbit hole it is!

I wonder what kind of Monitors you guys use to edit your RED footage on?

Hope you guys have a good creative day!

I'm sure you'll get lots of great suggestions. But we can probably help you better if you tell us a little more about your priorities. Do you want to spend $500, or $2500? Do you need the highest possible resolution? How important is color accuracy? You need good accuracy for turning out a passable grade, or professional colorist level accuracy-- or it's not all that important, grading happens on a different system?

You’re right my bad! I’m willing to spend around $3000 but everything that’s less expensive is welcomed! I’m searching for a monitor that gets the job done with enough accuracy it doesn’t have to be the best out there but something that is well calibrated and that won’t mess up the colors. I’m by no means a colorist! Thanks for your reply!

Thanks for your reply Micheal! I’m afraid this is well above my budget! My bad I had to be more specific!

Thanks for this one. Really helpful!

I recently bought an LG CX48 as a display and love it. It’s pretty large though, so you have to make sure there’s enough room between you and the screen.

LOL...an XM310, or equivalent seems fine, if you have deep pocket corporate sponsorship. If you're a one man band, as I am, very little fanfare has been given to ATOMOS' Neon 17 and 24 monitors. While rather hard to come by, I, finally, got my NEON24. I must say, this HDR monitor is quite the bomb at a price that's the fraction of the Sony BVM's.

testing the Ikan D24 and I think it's a nice option price/quality and you can even bring it on set if needed

For editing or grading? I have moved away from having a monitor dedicated for editing since I can just play things in full screen when reviewing an edit and most stuff will be viewed in a smaller window anyway so I don't need a dedicated monitor for editing. For grading, however, I'm using a Samsung Q9FN TV as it's a high-standard TV with very bright HDR nits.

I also use all my other devices, iPhone's, Hydrogen, Macbook, iPad etc. to review my grade in order to spot problems on different devices, which is good as the last QC step.

Sure, would be good to use a 10K monitor for HDR grading, but HDR projects are so rare today that you will be saving a lot of money by simply wait until the number of jobs requiring HDR gets higher or dominant. "Future-proofing" tech usually backfires and only very specific gear can hold up for years, Red One is actually one of the rare occasions of a camera that actually is still viable today, just look at The Social Network and ask yourself if that movie "looks bad". But for monitors, right now, when HDR is maturing and we don't really have an industry standard set, prices are high and it will go down dramatically over the coming years.
