Correction: The basic version originally developed for the EX1 sideloads for that reason.

Coming soon...

Ain't that the truth! I love ARRI and I have quite a few friends over at HQ's in Munich. They were invaluable and down right fantastic in helping me with the Kurosawa restoration project. Especially kudos to Elfi!
If it wasn't for RED, I would be in a market for the 235...

Thanks Paul - I am aware of that. In any case this sentence would be more appropriate as: "Peter, the Mattebox sideloads so you can use it with SONY cameras that have built in mics and lcds."

Since it was the EX1 & the likes from Sony for whom this MB was made for...
None of my cameras have this problem and in any case I want it for my (soon coming) redhead... :clown2:

Mitch,
Before you start fending off the orders... Send me a quote at gmail id sandeepdey.

New Arri MB+FF Combo

New Arri MB+FF Combo

We will also be carrying the new MB+FF Combo.

Arri keeps pushing back the time frame in which we will have them. When they brought the demo into our store to show us a few months ago, they said they wanted to release them by the end of September...

Once there is more info on a time frame, Mitch at Abel, or I, will certainly let everyone know.

MMB-1 kit, which includes the MFF-1 as well as other components.

I have seen a video of this in hdfilmtools.com
The arri guy, the same one who was at arri at NAB explained a bit what it consisted of. Does anyone know a release date for this product?

The answer to the two previous posts is:

NEXT WEEK!

I promise. You have no idea how hard We've been pushing on this.

We just got one of these units from Arri as a demo unit, not for sale, but we should be getting some units in our stock within the next two weeks. We are now accepting orders for them.

Abel now has demo units in our showrooms in both New York and Burbank. We will have complete detailed info on our website tomorrow.

We will also have inventory in stock for sale tomorrow.

Now accepting orders.

Here's some text I prepared describing the system. Note that this is general info but there is some RED-specific detail at the end.

Arri MMB-1 set for EX1/3

- Arri MMB-1 2-stage 4x5.65 mattebox with 2x filter trays, top flag & LWS bracket
- Arri MFF-1 single-sided follow focus with marking disk and .8” film pitch gear
- Arri MBP-1 baseplate for light weight support (LWS) with 2x 240mmx15mm rods
- Arri clamping light trap ring (fits to Fujinon 14x5.8 zoom for MMB-1)
- Arri .8 pitch gear ring (fits to Fujinon 14x5.8 zoom for MFF-1)

OVERVIEW
This kit consists of a 2-stage 4x5.60 mattebox with top flag and clamping rear lens light ring, mini single-sided follow focus with film pitch lens gear, lightweight support base, 9.5 inch 15mm aluminum rods and clamp-on geared ring for the EX1/3 lens.

MMB-1 MATTEBOX
The MMB-1 mattebox is a lightweight design with two 4x5.650 filter stages, the rear one of which is rotatable. The MMB-1 fully covers the standard 14x Fujinon zoom lens for the EX1/3 as well as planned wide angle adapters for this lens. Included are a top flag (side wings are optional additions), a lightweight 15mm (60mm centering) rod mount, two filter trays and a clamp-on rear light trap ring to clamp directly to the lens. The MMB-1 can be used either in rod mount or clamp-on configuration. Additional rear rings are available as options as well as a bellows back (for rod mount use only) that includes an internal 4.5" round filter holder for the use of a third filter. Other optional items for the MMB-1 include replacement filter trays that do not have the corners clipped (the clipping is necessary for fitting on the EX1), a replacement rotating rear filter tray assembly to accept a top-loading tray instead of the standard side-loading tray, and a replacement rear clamp ring in a larger size to accommodate large lenses (see below).

MFF-1 FOLLOWFOCUS
The MFF-1 follow focus is a revolutionary new design for Arri. It is a quick-mount design that can be attached/detached from lightweight 15mm rods without removing other gear. The unit has two adjustment points for a variety of positioning options and will handle a wide array of lens sizes. The marking disk is beveled for easy viewing of marks over a wide angle. The handwheel can be adjusted vertically for hard to reach setups and support in handheld operation. The focus ring can be set to rotate infinitely as in a standard unit or with adjustable hard mechanical stops to limit the focus range. The follow drive unit can also be flipped so that it rotates in the opposite direction (useful when focusing Nikon lenses which rotate the "other way"). The handwheel accepts standard Arri focus whips and cranks and uses standard Arri focus gears on either side to best fit your lenses. The MMB-1 kit comes standard with a .8 pitch film gear as well as a Delrin clamping gear ring that mounts to the EX1/3 lens and will also fit an HVX200A.

MBP-1 BASEPLATE
The support base holds two included 9.5” long 15mm aluminum rods. The rod mount is adjustable to accommodate a variety of small camcorders such as the HVX200A as well as the EX1 & EX3.

RED ONE AND OTHER CAMERAS
While this kit is designed specifically with the Sony EX1 and EX3 cameras in mind, it can also work for a variety of other camera systems. The MMB-1 mattebox with the rear bellows attached will cover the RED 18-50 when shooting full 4K on that camera, allowing the use of three filters with two rotating. A 114mm clamping light trap ring will be available so that the MMB-1 can be clamped directly onto the lens, allowing two filter stages with the rear stage rotating. An optional replacement rotating rear filter tray assembly will accept a top-loading tray instead of the standard side-loading tray for greater use of graduated filters. In the future a replacement rear clamp ring will accommodate the RED 18-85 zoom while allowing the use of two filters stages with the rear stage rotating. Abel Cine Tech also manufactures an adaptor to mount the MMB-1 mattebox or MFF-1 followfocus to 15mm or 19mm studio bridgeplate rods.

Addendum: I recently tested the mattebox with a 14mm UltraPrime and was pleased to discover that it fully cleared in 4K. And that's with the rear bellows with the 4.5" rear tray in. So two 4x5.65 filters, one of them rotating, and a third filter in 4.5" also rotating, all still covered all the way out to a 14mm. Very impressive.

This kit complete is still less expensive than an MB20-II on it's own or an FF-4 on its own. It's top notch quality stuff.

Oh yeah -- the MFF-1 works well with the 18-85 zoom. Some other follow focus units won't fit at all. Nice.
