So I've noticed a shift in what's available in the RED store with the RPP's… I've been building a set over the last couple of months, but it looks like they are being pulled from the store? Luckily the 50mm came last week, because today it no longer exists.

In another thread:
You are best to get RPP's while you can..

What could this mean? Maybe something at NAB?

They are obviously being discontinued. They are a third-party made product (with RED labeling and colors) from the early days of RED and RED has been putting R&D resources into developing their own curb-stomping PL cinema lenses (I've seen the now gone patent apps with some familiar names) that are of significantly higher quality. Perhaps they are relatively equivalent to what Panavision has given the names I saw.

hmmm, I wonder if the prices will be significantly higher than the current RPP lineup...

I sure hope they don't discontinue the RPP's 'cause it's only now that I've come to fall in love with them. And the affordability is surreal for such quality lenses. They are to cinema lenses what Scarlet and Epic are to professional cinema cameras.

I wouldn't worry too much. There's been a lot of talking up their quality and value recently in the recon threads - my guess is they're upgrading the line but they'll come back at a similar price point

More compact would be nice - but most of my work is on sticks / jib / dolly so weight etc isn't a huge deal. Faster aperture… meh; just get another fixture from the package truck.

I just hope I can get the last couple of lenses for the set before these disappear. Then I guess I'll have to see what happens with the next generation.

Red may be redesigning the RPP's to have the coverage to deal with the Dragon sensor? I so hope so.

Is the physical size of the Dragon sensor actually larger, or is it just more densely packed with photo sites/ pixels? Is there space to jam a larger sensor into the limitations of an already designed Epic / Scarlet body...

After giving it some thought - what I'd really like to see are i/LINK data pins on the next set of primes… That's where I'm betting my money- and if that's what they come out with, I'll have a slightly used set of the current RPP's for sale in Toronto...

I would seriously consider a set if they were half the size they are now. That's the only thing holding me back from them, otherwise, love em

You're all talking redesigned/upgraded RPPs.

Has everyone forgotten the RED electronic mount and lenses? Hopefully RED haven't; Evin Grant recently reminded us of the deficiencies of electronic stills glass, even with a REDmote Pro type device.
