  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What is the best 3 sided sunshade for the Red Touch 5" ?

Yep, great for cutting you in the forehead when you lean into the screen...

Any professional options out there?

Joking aside, I've used blackwrap when I'm in a pinch. You just double up to triple up, fold it over and it creates quite a sturdy sun shade. It creates a soft lip on the outside so it won't cut into your forehead, and it's sturdy enough not to flop around.

Not sure if there are actual 3 sided sunshades for the Red 5" Touch.

Yeah, I ordered that Hoodman one based on an internet search. It does not fit the Red screen.

I can't add blackwrap to rental packages. I need a professional solution. We have crews flying in from around the world and renting both Epic and Scarlet... they are always requesting a proper sunshade. (I have a home made one, but it's just not good enough).

Wish Red had one... lot's of potential accessories that they could make that the third party manufacturers have not picked up on yet...

I made one once out of black Matt board and gaff tape, it worked pretty well for quite a while. Now I use a hoodman, but it's four sided so it's a little bit awkward to get you fingers in there, looking forward to the 9 inch LCD

I have a four sided Hoodman and love it but I also have small hands :)...

The 4 sided hoodman for red 5.6 inch is best looking one, and you dont have to tape something to your monitor.
Another solution is the pix240 sunshade, it's a little to big but with one gaffertape on top you can hang it on the monitor, and it gives you a threesided sun shade.

But maybe a suggestion to red to make something, think alot of people would like and buy it!

I have both the 3 sided and 4 sided Hoodman.

I pretty much am using the 4 sided for everything because it blocks out ambient light from below. The elastic allows you to jump in there pretty comfortably.

Remember you can carry a stylus in your pocket if you've got big hands/large diameter fingers. I use one when shooting in cold weather.

This option shades the screen while also being able to quickly access the touch screen controls:
