Hi all,

I recently sent my old RED 1 MX for the UpGrade to the 8K W, but I'm curious what happens to my beloved RED 1.
Any ideas?

Thanks

It is rumored that there is a large forest full of tall, healthy trees where the sun gently beams through the net of leaves. The trees grow in such numbers that all the eye can see is a shield of bark from all sides no matter how far you traverse within. It's a quiet space where you can nearly hear the migrating monarchs flapping as they pass overhead. Set free from their burden of years of hard work, the RED One cameras are released into the wild from their branded plastic cages to enjoy the serenity found within this arbored labyrinth to reflect upon all that they have seen and perhaps forget or affectionately remember the many hands who have poked them with stubborn fingers and metal tools.

It is here where the RED Ones go to live out their final days until the earth reclaims them and transforms them into anew. Placed aside with love, but not forgotten, as their images live on forever as they ascend into nothing.

Reading all of that reminds me of this song.

If those RED ONEs get bored I'll put them to work.

I'd long hoped there was some kind of Battle Tested offering forthcoming, but never got an answer either way.

I ended up picking up a used Red One MX on my own. Given the time that has passed, I'm guessing they're not interested in supporting the legacy systems out there...or perhaps just want people to get in on the ground floor with Ravens or Scarlet-Ws instead of R1s and used Scarlet & Epic X's perhaps. I dunno.

Is this code for them taking the cameras out back behind RED Studios and putting them down?

It might actually be a great thing for those hanging on to their Red Ones. One of the reasons Red can't support them anymore is some of the parts - most likely semiconductors - are no longer available. They may soon have a big stash of these parts on hand to keep the Red Ones out in the wild going for a long time.

That's very good writing.

Would be nice if they refurbished the old RED ONEs, then with those that remain, they sell them off again as BattleTested R1 cameras. For another new upcoming young generation of filmmakers to get their feet wet with the RED ecosystem.

This was done once before. I would expect this time around they will be likely donated to schools to teach the next generation.
