  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Welcome the 18mm RPP to the family...

remember.. the 25mm weighs 6.15 lbs... so its pretty close in comparison :)

Dear Red, I'm happy we will soon have the 18mm, this was clearly the right focal length to produce after the original 5 lens set. Can't wait to get one!

However I take issue with the 2 other lens sizes that are apparently next to be produced (65mm and 14mm). The 65mm FOV being right between 50 and 85, can easily be accommodated by moving a bit closer or further away, and should be further back on the wish list. The 14mm is a specialty lens and outside the parameters of most "normal" production needs.

What I think is well within everyday needs is a focal length between 100mm and 300mm. For these reasons I think a 135mm (or 150mm) should be the next lens designed and produced. (then the 14mm)

I would second that. I just bought a cine-ized canon 200 mm 1.8 to help fill the gap. 150 is a good target.

Looking great. One question, that may have already been asked elsewhere:

Why do the RPP's focus barrel move past the infinity mark? When I worked with them I found that odd and a slight bit inconvenient. Is there a specific reason for that feature? Another feature request for the future is more distance markings in between the numbered markings. Sometimes it's a little difficult to jump to a spot between 7 and 15 feet when there are no other markings there. Just a thought.

I disagree - the lens I am most requiring is a 14mm for shooting interiors - the slightly smaller neg on the red means that sometimes even 16mm is a little tight for some directors.

In case lenses go "off" (as they often do - even sometimes within a day due to heat/cold/expansion etc) meaning that if the lens "hard stops" at infinity it can become impossible to get some shots if you cannot achieve infinity focus which I imagine you might find far more inconvenient.
