  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hi all,

So I was doing some tests out in the evening/night and I just got home to go over the footage. All was great until I bumped RCX to 100% display and I've got this weird noise in my footage. The noise stays in the same place on all affected shots.

It's only on footage from my Tokina 11 - 16. Could this just have been dust on the lens? Would love a bit of clarification as to what this could be, or if anyone's experienced anything similar.

This is pulled from a 5k still. I was shooting 1fps and a shutter speed of 1s.

That's not dust. Did you perform a black shading first at 1fps and 1sec exposure? Doesn't look to me that you did.

Pretty much. It can be cleaned up in post though.

Whenever you change your shutter speed to a slower rate than your previous black shading calibration you should always run a black shade calibration again.

If you are going faster than your current black shading calibration you should be fine.

good to know. thanks Phil. who has time to do a black shade in the field though... hopefully dragon is much faster at this.

Exactly why I didn't Ryan. Was only test shooting and it was nearing the end of the day, got lazy hah.

Thanks Phil, mind is at peace now. Makes sense

Got the same problem at 1fs night shots in Africa on Epics. Solved with black shading "at current fps".
I still have to check if a 1fps black shading might work at 24fps. Probably not...

Just have to anticipate this black shadings...

It probably does work. But I think you then do not use the full range of the sensor. I might be mistaken here but I think thats how it works.
