Anyone know the weight savings on the Carbon Weapon compared to the regular Epic Dragon Aluminium?
Just the body with lens mount?

I remember that the carbon dragon was 1lb lighter than the aluminum. That's because the $20,000 difference made the upgrade literally worth its weight in gold. I'm guessing the weapon is a bit lighter so with gold prices going down, the weight difference may have kept pace with the market.

Thanks Stacey that is really useful info.

Do you know if that is the brain only without side SSD module? I'm guessing it included the SSD module but its unclear.

Pretty sure the Weapon weights listed are with the side SSD Module installed, but no lens mount.

The Epic with PL mount and Side SSD is closer to 6lbs if I recall correctly.

With RED Weapon you're looking at a camera that's about 2lbs lighter I imagine if you consider the Side SSD Modules.

"SCARLET X:

Scarlet X Brain = 2300g
Side SSD Module = 262,5g
Al Canon Mount = 162,5g
RED 5" Touchscreen = 499,5g
LCD Kabel 30cm = 70g
LCD Kabel 60cm = 121g
RED Sidehandle = 457,5g
REDvolt = 250,5g
RED Mag 64GB = 91g
"

Summary : Weight of Epic BRAIN + MX senor = 5.07 lb

I would speculate that Stacey's weight listing in post #5 is accurate.

Hi Phil!

FYI, my CF Dragon w Mg++ mount, lens cap and CF mini Side Module weighs in at 4.4 lbs.

Thank you very much

It may also be worthwhile to consider that the Weapon body doesn't have the I/O that the Epic body has built in, so bear in mind that one may also need a module like the base expander factored in if making a closer comparison between the two bodies. Or substitute whatever module best fits your needs (i.e. jetpack, etc). You could still shoot without the base expander, but monitoring/powering the camera may be tricky at that point.

I have been wanting to know the weight of the new MG PL Mount.

But, unfortunately my Bomb rep at Red could not tell me.

Hopefully it is a large weight saving, but I guess we will have to wait for it's release.

You might ask if Dino G, Christopher Probst or Mark Pederson can measure the new PL mount, if they have the time. I know Dino has been pretty generous with requests from people, when he is not swapped with work. Chris is probably off working on the next big music video and Mark is cranking away on what will probably be the biggest 3rd party accessory for the Weapon.
