Web Wear Glasses wanted to capture some high quality video for their major brand shoot. Since this was a stills focused shoot, I only got a little less than 2 hours with the models spread out over the 2 days (about an hour each day), which made coverage very limited. Shoot took place in the heart of LA as well as Palmdale at Club Ed. I edited and graded (by no means am I a colorist) this piece the evening after the final shoot day as a personal edit.

The creative director knew somewhat of what he wanted, though he didn't have any story-boards, and I was brought on the day before the shoot. I was it for the video department. The 2 photo assistants held up some reflector boards when I needed some fill/rim, but that was it in terms of lighting given the amount of frames they had to capture.

The guy in charge of the car was kind of a jerk...showed up and demanded more money...really don't like when people do that. He wouldn't let the key male lead drive his car, and while that's understandable, a 70-year old guy doesn't even remotely look like a 25 year old model...so hopefully that wasn't too noticeable. hehe

I'm always blown away by the imagery of the RED Epic...it never ceases to amaze me. That coupled with the Contax Glass....heaven.

Shot on Epic 5K WS
MoVI M10
Contax Lenses
Tiffen Vari-ND
Cinegears Wireless Focus System
Zeiss Cinemizers
Paralinx Arrow X SDI Streaming System

It's really amazing what you can get with MX when you expose correctly and tweak images in the grade. There wasn't a single shot shot in this spot where I wished I could see 3 more stops in the highlights, thought the rolloff was too sudden, or thought the skin tones were horrible.

5K is plenty good here- nicely done!

Nice contrast and Colors, Skin color superb, Nicely done.

Thanks Carlos. Contax Lenses render skin nicely. Used Vision Color's LUT utility along with some imPulz LUT emulsions and Gorilla Grain.

Looks great Chris! Did you use any IR filtration? Your colors look spot-on.

Thanks so much!

I use the Tiffen Vari-ND. Less than $200..and it's what I've been using for well over a year. It's funny because so many users spend quite a bit of money on major IR filters when I spend less than $200 and get amazing skin-tones right out of the camera. I do have the saturation down one peg under the look settings, but other than that, it's RG4/RC3

Your exposures are superb. Just reflectors? What kind are you using? 1:08 when they get out of the car is super bright!

Thanks William. Gotta love RED's histograms/goal posts. Monitored the signal via my Zeiss Cinemizers.

Just bead/bounce boards, kind that you can buy at home-depot. One side is white foam, other side has a material called "reflectix." Like $25 for a 4x8...cut in half for 4x4's. It's roughly the equivalent of a 4-6K HMI (depending on sun strength nd angle)...so it packs a punch.

Looks great I didn't even notice that it was a different guy driving.
