  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Weapon wish

Maybe Red could introduce a 'Reserve Tank' option that when enabled - won't allow you to record N minutes of footage.

You'd never notice that only only really 95% full - and in those exceptional circumstances you would switch to the reserve tank to get that once in a lifetime shot that you were never planning for.

99.9% of us are against this...although I like your approach to problem solving.

You really feel 99.9 percent reduser's are against delete option on camera? I think having an option in the settings menu to enable delete individual clips would be great! Really its just as easy to format the entire card as it would be to delete one clip and harder if you make it an option you have to activate in the settings menu. Perhaps if its physically possible we should start a vote?

Also want to add faster boot times to wishes for weapon. Pretty bummed the dragon boots time is almost double the MX, already missed some classic shots because of this.

Sort of like driving a 1960 VW bus. There was no gas gauge. When you ran out of gas, you just pull on a nob under the driver's seat to activate one last gallon of emergency gas. Scary shit on the freeway. Off topic, I know...

To paraphrase Strother Martin from the movie "Cool Hand Luke", I think what we have here is a failure (of) communication '-)

I'd welcome clip deletion if it won't lead to dropped frames due to fragmentation.

I don't understand when people say they don't want it because they might accidentally delete a good clip. That's like saying you don't want knives in your kitchen because you might accidentally stab yourself. Plus, a simple feature to disable deleting clips would work if you really don't trust yourself.

I think clip deletion would lead to people on a tight budget buying less Mags, and competing cameras don't have the feature at this point, so I'm not sure what motivation RED would have in implementing it, other than just to be nice.

I've actually been looking into buying a laptop w/ 1.5+TB hdd and an external battery to power the RED Station, so that I can offload good takes out in the field.

I personally believe a lot of people want Clip Delete. However, there are reasons as of now that it's not in there. It has a bit to do with tech, a bit to do with human error, and that's about it.

In the future? Who knows.

As for clip thumbnails, that would be lovely. It would make navigating the Playback List nicer, though I think I would prefer a launched thumbnail "lightbox" with clip names in the lower right corner of each thumbnail or for clarity below the thumbnail itself.

Anyways, both are suggestions. Suggestions RED has been given before. We're not treading new ground here.

Agreed. I guess AE is the odd one out.

I've often wondered if the Adobe Premiere coders and the AE coders are mad at one another... they seem to not communicate with one another.

I'd like to see an offboard device with a monitor and a headphone jack about the size of a pix that plays back r3d files from a redmag or mini at 720P just to be able to review shot footage in a car or over the lunch break.

Nothing complicated an inexpensive handheld battery powered r3d viewer.

This was an idea put forward by my friend Corrado at lunch today and I've often wanted to just view stuff without having to boot the camera, etc. and I've wanted something like this for a long time. I think a device like this at a sub 800$ would be a winner.

Why not use a Surface Pro 3 with a mag reader? It can handle 1/4 resolution I believe.

This may be the Droid you are looking for.

this is cool but I have not seen pricing for this.

I have (and that's why I don't own one '-)

I think it was ~ $2,000 + and that's before adding the part that will offload RED mini mags (coming soon, they say.)

I won't divert this thread too much, but this thing looked like a GREAT idea until they said it's max copy speed is 138mbs , which is pretty slow for us shooting / using RedMags. I think once they double that speed and cut the price in half it'll be a good options. Otherwise a laptop, some SSDs and some velco works great.

Ha ha! True! Either that or they are afraid of cannibalizing the software by adding too many similar functions. I personally wouldn't mind a fluid workflow between them though...

I figured i would chime in on this wishlist. Not sure if this is podsible or how it would work. But i remember the old arri M and how it combined body and sensor. It would be cool to have a feature where you could detach the front of the camera and attach to a very small module and be able to get very unique shots where the other camera could not go. If you were able to get it very light weight you could essentially mount the front of the camera like a larger go pro and get crazy shots. They could make a backpack mount as well were you could have the body in the pack and the small tiny sensor and lens in your hand or on a small gimbal.

Just an idea. Don't know if it is possible.

I would appreciate if red could confirm that the weapon will have similar start time as the epic and that will do 120 fps atleast in 5k hd.
These things is bugging me when looking at the dragon. I dont like to crop down to much to get 120fps.
