  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Weapon wish

Being able to delete clips would really help stretch the use of Redmags while doing extended field work for documentaries. An alternative would be to include an auxiliary CF/SD/XQD slot for offloading footage in camera so that Redmags can be wiped and reused without having to bring a laptop out for field work.

Another thing on my wish list is weather sealing, or at least designing the ports and seams so that an optional cover could seal off anything moisture-sensitive in the camera.

Personally not a fan of the delete clip in camera... On set is a dynamic crazy place sometimes - as far as I'm concerned if we shot it it ends up at the post house and they can ignore it. The idea of saving space, can quickly turn into "I thought you said delete take 2?, Didn't you??" followed by tears and the client throwing a tantrum.

How about an option in playback settings that enables/disables on camera clip delete? As precautionary it could have a box pop up after selecting that says, "are you sure you want to enable clip delete in playback?"

Since Weapon is mostly a camera body revision, my biggest request would be to improve the shoulder mounting. Primarily I would love to see permanent rosettes to quickly attach handles and relocating ports to better attach shoulder pads.

requested forever by video camera users.Nobody wants to delete single multiple clips on mag.Its against nature of film magazine.
Im saying its the most easiest thing in the world. Its doable but nobody wants that option.Except videographers (5D,DSLRs)

No, not videographers. People who are in control of their camera (and the set) and know what their doing. It also has nothing to do with film, again, idiotic argument. Digital is a completely different medium that offers all kinds of features that were not possible on film. Most importantly: much improved workflow.

Can a bad AC delete clips by mistake ? Sure. Can a bad AC pull the mag too early and corrupt it ? Same thing. Scared ? Simply make the feature disabled by default in a hidden submenu.

This feature is not a biggie (for me), but it would be convenient... I've been in the situation a few times where one mag was still offloading, the other mag was at 10% and talent cannot deliver what I need... reset to 1, do it again... over and over until we have the shot... and now we're running out of tape... u can't tell the talent to stay in the emotional state u've manipulated (--> directed) him/her into for the last 45 mins and now he/she is finally getting there to actually deliver the arc of the scene and u're out of tape... doesn't happen a lot, but it does.

or we were out in the field and all tapes are full and the last one is at 10% and u're trying to get a difficult shot of a moving target... or, the most common case: talent is performing difficult stunt scenes on set in a WS and everything has to be perfect for the take to be usable in the final cut... I don't need the 26 failed takes in the WS, u can't intercut them...

One way is to obviously have production buy more mags (if possible), but one would still be dealing with offloading lots of unnecessary data, if just one out of a gazilion takes on a 240 GB mag is actually usable.

Could not agree more Mike. Speaking from a smaller commercial/doc cinematographer/editor point of view (guess you could label me a videographer because I have, and still sometimes do shoot on DSLR?)...I say Delete on camera is very helpful. I know storage is cheeper these days, but backed up r3d files still tally up. Also the time it takes to sift though and delete these files in post tallies up. And If its not me editing, then I like to do my editor a solid by eliminating junk shots on camera for them.

Course it might all just be a moot point, because it might not be physically or digitally possible to delete on camera off redmag.

If Weapon is a whole new body with our current Dragon sensor in it, Can we pay extra to keep our empty Epic Dragon body? I would love to mount Dragon M next to my first Red One.

I know it's early days in this technology, but I sincerely hope RED will begin work on this type of wireless camera chip immediately. It could find a use in transmitting data at terahertz speed over a short distance long before it finds widespread usage for the Internet.

Ok take this with a fist of salt but i was using the ipad while playing with my kid to make panoramic photos. You know where you just rotate the camera along a line and the ipad creates the panorama automaticly. Would have been a cool feaure to make panoramas with r3d. But if we skip that the camera should merge the stills in camera and instead just give us a grapihc guide. I think it still could been a neat feature. So first you choose if you want to capture a straight line panorama image or a 180 degre sphere. Then the camera guide you from the first position to the last using the 3 axis sensor. Then redcine x could merge the images .

Ok dont forget the salt:) just hope that we se more uses of the gyrodata in future.

Whatever happened with that! +1

You guys don't believe that you cannot record timelapse do you? I mean, the epic and dragon timelapse is one of the major and significant improvements over the red one.

Reading through this thread I think for the next release red might just call the camera UNICORN. :)

i kid. I kid...

Hello,

My wish is for a camera body which can function in full production mode without looking like this: http://images108.fotki.com/v1279/photos/4/43793/4909192/EasyEpics-vi.jpg

Funny as Arri makes a Epic carbon like camera, Red might make an all in-one "Alexa plus" type camera, then again maybe not, in fact I'm quite sure it won't be anything like an Alexa Plus...

Cheers,
Damien

PS Where did that Meizler module go again ;-)

If you use the right module, you don't need to have an Epic with so much cable on it.
Action Products Elektra, Proteus, Wireless HD module and a Paralynx inside...Focus with a modern and skinny transmitter like Cmotion or RTmotion...

I have a full sized equiped epic, in a really small body.

Now we need all these accessories to be the body.

Timelapse mode is fine. What would be an awesome addition would a actual usable Longexposure mode. Even GoPro has finally gotten it down. I know a GoPro isn't a RED but we're talking about a full frame camera here.

There are plenty of people, and valid reasons, to delete shots on a mag from the camera. I could certainly use the feature. I would want some annoying "are you sure?!?" dialogs before the delete was done. Maybe even enter a code or password. Of course if it has a chance to impact performance, from fragmentation, then that would be a valid reason not to allow it.

I wonder if some of the hardware (electronic) will be upgraded as well. More memory for more black shades, faster boot times, lower power usage for longer battery life. While its pretty quiet now, the high pitched whine of the front fan is annoying. I like the idea of lighter and smaller for my long hikes and shooting nature.

Sometimes swapping a lens can be difficult with the location of the monitor port. Same thing with the 2.0 bottom fan.

Hope they can manufacture and ship accessories and modules quickly. :) Higher throughput for the upgrade process.

A better autofocus system for still lenses.

RED is covering a lot of markets with their camera system. And each market has their own desires.

Maybe a mechanical shutter "option/module" for the long exposure timelapse mode.

If one of the major manufacturers (all it takes is one) implements the delete clips feature into their camera, I guerentee every other manufacturer will follow suit and we will all wonder how we ever managed without it. I refuse to believe that at this point in time this feature is not available because it might cause reliability issues. To me this is almost a no brainer.

i don't know what this means?

Frame summing doesn't really work or give you great results. It would be rad to essentially leave the shutter open for a 30 second exposure to gather more light. Or to use it to create a motion drag in a still. Similar to what you can do on a DSLR, GoPro etc.

For timelapse and photo purposes.
