Question for the RED team.

Now that RAVEN I/O package is coming with the DSMC² Base I/O V-Lock Expander.

Is this something MAGNESIUM/CARBON packages could include as well?

Would be great for Magnesium and Ravens to have matching I/O hardware straight out of the box!

I am also hopeful that the new V-Lock expander will be included once it's released. This is something I need for the cameras to fit into our kit efficiently, and it not being available yet is one of the reason I haven't upgraded yet.

Yup us too - we're all V-Mount.

Was just at the Red Store and saw this:

NOTE: The DSMC2 Top Handle is NOT fully compatible with the DSMC2 Base I/O V-Lock Expander, as the top handle will interfere with the battery when one is attached to the expander module.

I was one of the few who said, hey guys, can't you position the handle to go forward over the top of the lens? I find this is a much better solution for carrying the camera instead of having the top handle facing backward, but I don't see many people doing it this way...

I do it that way on epic. It's critical to camera balance when you have a heavy lens on the front.

Exactly. Have to say we did a commercial yesterday and the camera was great as usual. Client was very impressed...now that Pro Res option would have been handy!

The Red Base I/O has a D-Tap, but ET doesn't -at least from what I saw on their web page. Can anyone confirm?

D-Tap/P-Tap:
- DSMC² BASE EXPANDER = No
- DSMC² REDVOLT EXPANDER = No
- DSMC² REDVOLT XL EXPANDER = No
- DSMC² BASE I/O V-LOCK EXPANDER = Yes
- Element Technica DSMC² V-Lock and G-Lock Plates = Yes

Does this work with the top handle and Red bricks without switching the top handle into a front flip setup? That is a quite standard and important setup in my opinion.

I'd still prefer the V-mount standard - why give us a RedVolt XL mount we aren't going to use and make us spend another $900 with ET (or $550 with W.C.) when there's already something from Red that does exactly what we need? I've got to think 90% of us are on V-mount currently?

I left V Lock years ago for the much improved Anton Bauer locking system, its just so much better.
BUT I'd go back to V Lock if Red can swop out the Base Expander on my Weapon CF package to the V Lock one.

V-lock is an industry standard making it possible to use a variaty of battaries and it's always preferable on most productions. It's long running hours and ease, robust use makes it the perfect solution... as long as you can actually use them on the weapon setup as it is now with the top handle.

+1 for the V-lock here.
I know that Red probably ordered tons of Redvolt XL module stuff for the upgrade packages. But I know I'll use the V-Lock module as soon as I can get it.
Reminds me of the quad redvolt modules from the Epic upgrades... tons of them out in the wild and few really use them.
