  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Weapon Side Handle Teaser on Facebook

Supposedly there's something else that's new hidden in the picture. The DSMC2 side handle (far camera in Ninja's hand) looks like it sticks out far more than the original DSMC one (near camera).

looks like you can get a nice around grip on the DSMC2 handle... like a thicker more functional outrigger- sweet!

New canon mount? Maybe?

The dual is officially noted as compatible with the DSMC2 system. I don't own a weapon but the integrated top plate should allow for the same installation as it used to with Epic/Scarlet. Depending on what you need or want to install of course you can always confirm with your rep, because I don't know which of the top connectors it might cover up if you plan on using the new displays. But maybe Phil can chime in again. At least he confirmed my last post ;)

Yes the dual is compatible with DSMC2 and I think that it will work with the DSMC2 side handle. Of course you can't use it with the DSMC2 side handle but it could be working with the new LCD 7" (didn't try yet).

Thank you for the pictures Etienne. If you unscrew the right grip, it would probably work with the side handle. Still curious if there's enough space left for the new displays when they are being used with the top connectors. It looks like it would work, but I don't know how far these protrude

What if... there were contact pins on the bottom of the top "main" portion of the handle head that allowed for future development of one of the interchangeable grips to contain a battery, for those that wanted it?

Can you by chance let me know if the dual outrigger handle will block the side lemo screen adapter if mounted in the back?

If it does get blocked perhaps you have a redvolt xl module you could try it on the top of those mounting screws and see if it works?

My hope is to get the right handle far enough forward that I can control the weapon with the sidekick from the handle.

Thanks!

oh great! yes, that was my last question too, is the display, like the 4.7 touch, still able to mount directly on the top connector?

In case u use one of the "old" LCDs it works too

No battery compartment? Death of the Redvolt, I presume.

Definitely looks easier to hold, now that you can grasp with your thumb.

The Dual Outirgger is not able to be mounted in the back of the camera (even on the Redvolt module). The screws are not aligned so it's not working. And even if it was possible, it will be blocking the Lemo Adaptor.

Unless they changed the specs/design from early 2015, a single Redvolt can be attached to the Redvolt XL module. That's how Peter Jackson had his rigged. Hope they didn't change this.

It was a hack. The battery is no way secure. You have to tape it down.

Really? I didn't have the time to try that yet but I was thinking as using RedVolts as back-up on an upcoming shoot... Disappointed...

Edit: just tried it... Even with taping the RedVolt, it's not secure at all... I'm really disappointed...

yup, the dual outrigger will NOT work on the raven, holes dont match up :(

though i see on the red website it does say it compatible.
maybe its only compatible without the monitor rigged on top.
they didnt have a raven at the store today, but the rep their told me he tried it and the holes didnt match up.

Bummer, perhaps the holes can be drilled out more to fit? Or perhaps red can make a new top cross bar that fits old handles for back mount for weapon?

If not then perhaps I will pop a nato rail on there and nato clamp it on. Would be good for fast removal for gimbal as well.

Its not going to be good for my neck :-(

Its not going to be good for my neck :-(

Revolts were great for keeping my camera helmet weight to a minimum. Im going to have to get busy in the gym and give my neck muscles a workout if I'm going to have to start jumping with V locks or XL's :-( - Please tell me theres a revolt solution further down the road for DSMC2 - Ever hopefull Nashy
