Just wanted to give everyone a heads up/ put it on your radar if you are working with the above setup.

We just received our cable-less DSMC 2 plate from WC, it working great with one minor though big issue if you run into it.

After running a few tests, we let the battery completely deplete while rolling. The camera just hard shut down... Corrupting the clip. This has never happened to us before. The camera will always stop the roll and then shut down. Just want to put that on the table for anyone using this setup. DO NOT LET YOUR BATTERIES COMPLETELY DEPLETE.

We chatted with Wooden Camera and they said they'd talk to their engineers.

Was this with a chipped battery that communicates with the camera or a battery that just appears as voltage? I would LOVE it if RED would make it so you could set a voltage to have the camera automatically stop recording. That would totally prevent anything like this.

We have been using these batteries for the last three years with no issues in regards to corrupt clips/ cam shutting off. We rarely let batteries deplete completely, but its prob happened a dozen times over the last 3 years without issue. Cam has always stopped record and then shut down.

We have used multiple v-mount options (Red one cradle, Wooden Camera DSMC1 cabled mount) and neither had issues.

Wooden Camera just told me there is an auto shutdown in the menu for Weapon now... Once I get back to the office I'll hunt that down and test again. Its odd this feature isn't turned on all the time. Ha.

That is weird. The batteries give percentage on the camera display or just voltage?

I've been using REDs Belt Clip and REDs V-mount for the Epic Dragon, and each and every time the camera shut down mid-take it will corrupt the clip and wasn't able to play it back in camera (but for some was able to playback after download)

Don't waste your time, it's not in the latest release build and there's no current beta builds. I looked on my weapon, couldn't find it, then I searched the manual for 6.3.27 and it's not there. They must have some kind of beta build that's not been released yet.

Have you tried letting the camera run off the battery but via the lemo power port to see if it's something to do with the WC plate itself, or if that's how the Weapon records files now?

My Epic is currently at Red getting upgraded so I can't speak to Weapon but on the Raven, if you go menu>power, there are three drop down menus. Power In, Power Out and Power Save. Under Power Save, there's an Auto Shutdown option that
gives you the choice of "never" or several minute options. I haven't actually tried to let a battery run out to see what happens in this mode yet though..

@Brody_B - we let it roll till the wheels fall off in testing, so if for some god forsaken reason it happens on a real set, we know what the outcome with be prior to it actually happening. We test the shit out of these cameras because we shoot some pretty wild content where we will roll until the mag fills or batteries die if need be.

@ Andrei - Percentages. Red just reached out, so once I'm back at the office I'll send in a log. Its not a big deal, just threw my team for a loop because I've never seen this with my cameras. They've always cut clip prior to shutting down.

Corrupt take is always bad. It happened to me that the battery popped out of the V-Lock and made a hard shutdown while recording. It would be good the files to be written with some safety every 5".

Question did it do the little red sign on the screen with the countdown to the shutdown before it went down or it just shut down? Ours do the count down and I would assume, stop recording and then boot down would be the atomatic procidure then, but have not tested.

It should only corrupt the last 4 gigs of the take. The camera won't be able to play it back but if you download it you should be able to recover everything but the last 4g chunk of the clip, that is assuming the clip is long enough to be broken into multiple chunks. This was my experience on epic Dragon haven't looked into this happening on my weapon yet, but I've never had a wooden camera battery plate

On my Scarlet it always just shuts down without stopping the roll. That's with the non %-communicating batteries and the old WC plate that feeds through the AC lemo.

I asked about this issue to my contact at WC and he answered that the issue is due to the Red settings not being set up properly. He sent me this pic and told me that this info has been provided to the ones with the problem.

Hey guys, Michael from Wooden Camera here and I wanted to chime in. There is not a problem with the Cable-Less plates corrupting clips. The problem was brought to our attention by Nathan and we immediately tested the situation out but could not replicate the issue he described on both our Scarlet-W and Raven.

Trent has chimed in and stated "The camera will always use remaining run time or percentage reported by the battery to end roll and shutdown. The camera cannot know when a dumb battery will die."

Auto shutdown has nothing to do with the problem you are experiencing. Auto shutdown will turn the camera off after the selected amount of inactivity.

The camera will always use remaining run time or percentage reported by the battery to end roll and shutdown. The camera cannot know when a dumb battery will die.

Thanks Michael and Christoffer for the note. From my experience the above menu option will just automatically shut down the camera every minute (or 2 or 4 dependent on your setting) after 1 minute of inactivity... It will not make sure the camera shuts off prior to a complete battery drain if the camera is still speeding.

Michael, I am not saying it is the plate that is causing the issue... more so our new setup has presented us with this new/ different problem/ issue, whatever we want to label it.

This was the first time we've encountered the problem. We are going to replicate it again today at the office and will report back. We will use multiple battery brands as well.
