Was stoked to see that Phil has taken delivery on the first 8K Weapon. I want to rent this cam for several projects coming up early fall so Phil says “sure . . . hit me up”.
My initial rush of thinking about all the cool possibilities was then followed by a personal reality check as I look around my studio at the inventory of lens, battery, card readers, Mac trashcan, DSMC1 bits etc and suddenly realized that I better start seriously thinking about the 8K ecosystem as it applies to me.
Much has been written on these subjects since NAB 2015 but now it’s Christmas eve and time to render general discussions into actionables. I would like to prepare ahead of time with this same but different cam than the Dragon.
To start, I would like to ask those who intend to rent their 8K cams what are they going to include for let’s say these three scenarios:
1. Studio / Shoot: The full kit where weight is not an issue. For simplicity, let’s say the project is a fashion shoot with lock down and slider shots. Include lenses you will have available for this and the following kits.
2. Location Shoot: where air travel might be involved so everything has to pack into 50lb cases. This would be the lean kit.
3. Gimbal Optimized: this would include the gimbal and a lightweight camera/lens set-up and any second op gear you will have or suggest.
Looking for turnkey solutions for daily and weekly projects. Include insurance requirements and anything else you can think of.
Next up would be the DIT requirements. This is a brave new world so would ask guys like Blair what does a DIT cart include as a minimum?
And finally, post processing. I currently have a MacTrash, bigass TB raids and use Resolve to cut and color. What am I in for in trying to work with 8K footage for a hardware? Kigroe?
If it’s OK with the Mods I would like to keep a running link set in the following post places to update with information for folks like me who intend to rent to connect with those who have 8K cams and services.
Real excited about this and look forward making some epic footie!
Cheers!
