  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Weapon 8k Queue

My RED Weapon Helium 8K #1071 was delivered today! Just in time for a shoot. The RED Team rocks as always.

Hi Dylan, was yours a new order or was it the temp upgrade from VV order?

Thanks Dylan.

Can I ask how many people are still waiting for their upgrade from the VV Order of March '15.

Everybody on the list on the first post of this thread is a VV NAB15 order. Maybe the thread name should be adapted as; until Helium; "we" were the only 8K-ers ;-)
Now it has become confusing to some.

MIND YOU: the actual list of VV NAB15 orders is much larger than what's reflected in this thread.
So much for the good news ;-)
Happy waiting.....

So how is the Helium production line? TBH I really thought we'd have ours by now. Naive to think it would arrive in October / November but it's almost March now and no word.... feels like VV all over again

I placed my order at the last minute so I'm pretty far into the queue. I was told allocation in March maybe. I'm in no rush though. I'd rather all the IPP2 stuff get's sorted out before I get mine anyway!

I actually ordered within seconds / minutes and still haven't gotten that call just yet.

Here is an updated version of the DP Review test chart wall using the latest scaling algorithm improvements in my image processing tool:

1. Source image (7680x4320)
2. UHD set of kernel, kernel + SSIM and kernel + SSIM + anti-ringing.
3. HD set of kernel, kernel + SSIM and kernel + SSIM + anti-ringing.
4. The two kernels used are Box and Lanczos.

On the HD version, the box has more aliasing in the bursts and wedge. At UHD, aliasing is virtually gone in box. The HD version of Lanczos has stronger ringing than the UHD version. Virtually no ringing in the box version. Anti-ringing on kernels like Lanczos and Catull-rom are still on the to-do list.

The source image is there so you can use your own scaling algorithm to compare against the ones I posted.

These are basically live synthetic images. I will eventually do this with my Seattle skyline photo from Kerry Park. You never want to fully tune on a synthetic image as it may result in lower quality results on natural images. With that said, I find lots of value in a synthetic image. The QUHD to UHD scale is a simple 2:1 in each direction, which is better than QUHD to HD. In the end, I am very happy with the results.

Also have anti-ringing working on deconvolution too, which is nice.

Sorry to overload the thread. I did create it, so I am going to use that as my excuse.

On the subject of shooting VV, my VV is in Florida doing some under water shooting this weekend using a VV H2O OLPF and the Canon 11-24mm. 11mm at 8192 seems to vignette, but at 7680, looks good so far. 12mm might be safer. Jeff plans to start a thread when he returns to discuss VV, Gates new UW housing and share some images.

This weekend is more of a test though to get it all sorted out. e.g. I ended up getting the Jetpack-SDI Expander for the UW housing. Nice layout for cables coming down vs. from the side like the Base IO Expander. Only thing that is causing a bit of an issue is the gig-e port. It pokes straight out and is interfering with the battery a bit. Need to find a good solution for that in the future. He also has the older 5" touch LCD from EPIC, so we are using a Wooden Camera Weapon male pogo to male Lemo 24" to connect display to camera. That is a nice tool-less solution.

Today he tested in the pool using an SDI cable and Foolcontrol. Made it nice and easy for them to stay dry and run some tests. I don't think anyone can say enough nice things about Foolcontrol. It just works!

BTW, I just ordered this monster laptop to process my VV footage. I should have it on Tuesday. It is the first laptop with a Pascal Quadro GPU. (P5000 w/ 16 GBs). I also got the laptop with 64 GBs. They only had the FHD displays in stock vs. the UHD. It supports up to three 4096x2160p60 displays. (one over Mini DP and two via TB3) I ended up getting the Core i7-7820HK CPU. Also got one 512GB SSD and one x 1 TB 7200 RPM drive.

Thanks Dylan.

Probably almost all of them. I have shot on four VV cameras. One was not a real shoot, just wanted to shoot a few seconds of video just to say I have shot on four. :) Two are in the Seattle area.

MIND YOU: the actual list of VV NAB15 orders is much larger than what's reflected in this thread.
Exactly! I know of at least three VVs that are not listed on this thread. Actually four if you count the anamoprhic version.

HI, are you originally a Forged Buyer or a Woven buyer?

Can anyone else let me know if they have a Woven Weapon and have received their Helium?
Trying to find out where you stand in the queue is almost impossible, would love a few clues....

Thanks

Should receive mine this week.

Anyone else? I'm really hoping to get my allocation soon.

Did the upgrades stop? It's been quiet the last few weeks? Any new Vista Vision sensors?

I don't want to paraphrase, so I will just quote Jarred's post from 3/31/17.

Jarred Land said:
Vista Vision is.. you guessed it.. still slowly coming out of the ovens and slowly getting out to customers. That is just how VV is and is going to be for the foreseeable future.

How about Helium stopgap upgrades?

As of today, 724 days and counting since orders opened up for the vV sensor.
