  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Weapon 8k Queue

I'm a low ISO guy - I like to feed the sensor lots of light and I hate noise.

I tell folks - however they like to rate the Dragon - rate the Helium 1 stop up.

So helium is an 800 ISO sensor? :D Low ISO Buddies for Life.

I must say with all the chaos on the other thread today, I'm glad to for once be a casual observer with no real need to buy anything... unless they have a new camera for 70mm or medium formats. Then I'm in trouble!

Still love to know what the specs are on all the 8K helium range for Weapon. How my Trooper stacks up to my Forged once it's converted to either helium or vista.

Jarred's recent comments actually reduces or removed some of the pensiveness of the shipping schedule. With the Oct 11 announcement being aimed at a specific group of the Red brethren, may be signaling a new tiered approach to announcements and updates.

Sensing a bit that RED is reinventing some of the ways it does business, not core mission different, but getting ahead and staying ahead of the ball different.

Agree, I am sticking with VV and my magnum as a B camera kind of puts me in a different mindset for helium.

It would be nice to get a update on VV, basically no "normal" web orders seem to have gone out and we have had no real news in the last 90 days on delivery. I'd even be happy to know what quarter of 2017 that the first 30 people in this list should expect their cameras.

Would agree, Helium LE was so stressful that I'll enjoy this watch the red of the read family go through the excitement. It is clear that we are seeing mature company now and it's exciting to watch! Just also incase there is one more thing I was not expecting.

I have no idea what the specific issues are with the VV Dragon cuts, but they must be vexing or they would have been solved by now. I give Jarred credit, he told us very clearly that the process would be slow going...

Would agree, they are being open and honest. It would be nice at some point to know a ball park estaminet of when people on the list might see VV (knowing that it's a rough guess), but today is about our Scarlet and Epic friends!

for example Phil Holland who got his VV a bit early because he's given back to this community so much, for no compensation , that he deserved a token of appreciation from me ( and from all of you ) in the form of a jump.
While I can't, and won't, speak for others, I think there is no one more deserving than Phil. I am not sure when he has time for an actual life given how much he contributes to the community.

'Very much looking forward to hear more about the 'new imaging pipeline':
+) Will it elevate the Dragon VV sensor's image , or
+) Is the pipeline is more about unlocking the MB/s write speed of the DSMC2 - unleashing higher Helium sensor frame rates.

Also curious if the imminent colour science changes are Helium only, or there is there are some Panavision 'leanings' that could also mean improvements for Dragon too.

I am under the impression that Panavision/LightIRON have their own proprietary color workflow for MillenniumDXL separate from what is in RCX-Pro and the SDK.

The new imaging pipeline from RED is for both Helium and older sensor tech. What that means in specific... TBD.

So from the Upgrade Paths thread it seems Heliums have started going out to Forged owners. Has anyone besides Stacey gotten notified?

I have a Woven Weapon and I was told I would be receiving an upgrade to helium "while I wait" for the vistavsion upgrade I paid for so long ago. I haven't actually received word to send in my camera in for the conversion yet.

The fact that they are going to upgrade vista vision customers to helium sensors for free makes me worry that the vista vision upgrades are still a long way away : (

Don't worry.. your worries are legitimate.. it will be a long wait still. Yields are going up.. slowly.. but we still are only pulling out a few VV sensors each and every month.

Honest question - what do you think will come first?

1) making it through the Dragon VV queue
2) availability of Helium VV

Helium VV would require new internals, that is a LOT of pixels

Maybe faster media too. I see 5:1 as the bar for 24p.

8K is such a nice resolution. You get a nice down scaling ratio when you go to 4K. Even poor scaling works well at that ratio.
