Weapon 8k Queue

Yes. But if the 10-12 months from now for first batch orders is accurate, I'd reconsider

The 10-12 month could simply be an estimate on how long it will take to reach Michael's spot in line. Jarred keeps posting how slow the upgrade to 8k will be. I don't think many people really understand just how slow is slow. :) We know that more people ordered 8k than they expected. We know that when they start selling them again that they will be more expensive. From my point of view, the money is spent and I don't have to think about it anymore. I am sure you could get a refund if you wanted, but you would lose your spot in line and you would go to the higher price point when it does go back on sale. We know it is difficult to manufacturer (low yield) an 8k sensor. We know it is going to be a slow roll-out because they want it to be high quality. We know that initial 8k sensors are going to a feature film.

Those who get 8k early will most likely re-coup the cost quickly since they will be in limited supply. I hope that those who do receive early will at least share some test clips so we have something to look at while we wait.

What patience. Red gave us the future years ahead of everyone else. Where they are now, is where Red started.

I think Jarred was pretty honest with us, they did not know how hard it was going to be to make this sensor. Yields are not what they expected. It's uncharted territory. All of us here want 8k, but I must say the weapon is amazing. It's a huge steep forward, and we want Red to get it right, not to just get it out there with an 8K stamp to meet a resolution. We're buying into the future with our deposits.

Considering Arri won't even sell their large sensor option I'm quite happy no matter the duration. It's still a decent FOV compared to historical price points of film this is a steal for vista but the more info on the roll out of weapons the better I don't mind waiting but an idea of when they may need cash is just helpful

Michael, Congrats! What were you upgrading from?

It's a new order, so not attached to an upgrade. I do have some other upgrades in the queue, but they are not destined for 8K (so not relevant to this thread). (And for those who always read too much into everything, it was delivered as 6K, and I'll patiently wait until it is called for its 6K upgrade.)

I like the sounds of this. Woof. Nearing the 600 serials! Peeps have indeed been busy at RED HQ.

Oops! Sorry Phil... my lexDysia set in and I transposed a couple of numbers... actual number is 569.

We seem to be stuck at 34 upgrades to 8K.

Where did you find the time stamps?

Tony, I think Stacey is preferring to go by sales order number (SO#) as some pondered for a time after upgrading to the Weapon before deciding on taking the 8k option.

You should've received an email from RED when you placed your order for the 8K sensor. Your time stamp AND your order number should be in the email. If you can't find this info, you can get it from your rep.

I received my woven weapon a few days ago. Beautiful piece of kit! It's also due for 8k and the date on my invoice for 8k was 04/27/15.
