  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Weapon 8k Queue

yes Blair that is correct.

For anyone Searching: it might not be in your Confirmation Mail, especially if you pay by wire (it says a long wire Number but that is not it) but you can find it in your RED Account online on the website.
 
Forged #140 (new order) got delivered, YAY! :-)
 
Michael, was Forged #140 delivered as 8K or do you have to send it back for the 8K upgrade?

That was the reason why I ordered a Forged "on top" of the Woven VV8K upgrades: "have 8K in 2015".
It became clear Woven would never have VV in 2015 so I bought a "Fast Track Pass" (still queueing for the Epic-M/X to Woven 6K upgrades).
Fingers crossed it gets upgraded before the end of January as I need it for 2 shoots in Feb and March.
The glass is already half full.... ;-)

It's a bit "the black box" of upgrades.
I ordered the Forged as 6K package as various sources at RED confirmed me I can apply my VV8K from my Epic-X or Epic-M upgrade-path to my Forged.
So now I will "apply" to have one of those upgrades transferred to my Forged.
No clue where this will lead to though....

IMHO - Based on what we know….


In addition to the quotes at the front of this thread, we know that the 1st batch has at least 12 8K sensors in it ( but my guess would be that the total is more like 60 or 120 ).


Jarred has said they are supporting “one big show”. I’m pretty sure I know which project this is and I doubt they will need any where near 12 8K WEAPONS. They certainly won’t need the entire batch.

This quote indicates that CUSTOMERS who ordered at NAB will start receiving 8K chips this Month (assuming 8K chips start shipping on schedule).


I’m guessing that EVERYONE on the list in this thread (plus the “one big show”) will be in the first batch and that the second batch will be mostly FORGED orders (who didn’t get on the list) plus a lucky few who get their orders in right when the order page goes live again.
 
My dragon X hasn't been called for 6k weapon cf yet and it signed up during NAB for 8k, how do you think us X guys will be handled? not first batch? I'm fine waiting more so just curious as to how the roll out works

I don't think anyone on this list will be in the first batch, but that is just my opinion. Reading Jarred's posts, he keeps telling us how slow it is going to be. His latest is that more 6K weapons will ship in a day than 8ks will ship in a month over the next couple/few months.

My opinion is that only the major feature will get the initial 8k cameras and then they will trickle out. I am hoping I get upgraded to 8k before NAB. Beyond that, I am happy shooting on Weapon until that day arrives.

All of the data we have is that the 8k upgrade will be done based on date/time stamp order. I am sure as soon as someone gets upgraded to 8k we will all hear about it.
 
My Bomb Squad rep told me that I should be thinking more like 10-12 months for W-Woven 8K upgrade, not 2-3 months.

Wow. 10+ months and you're prepaid?

Who knows what else will be out a year from now.

Yes. But if the 10-12 months from now for first batch orders is accurate, I'd reconsider. It'd be a year late at that point as "later this year" was the estimate in April 2015.

Maybe I misunderstood. Maybe another update will override what I thought I heard. Maybe not. But I do put a lot of stock in RED taking care of the customer. If it doesn't ship for some time, I have a pretty strong feeling that there will be both a good reason to wait and a good reward for having done so. In the mean time, I will have a 6K Weapon to unbox in a matter of days. That's something!
