  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Way too much fun...

Didn't catch that one in Greece!

It's an old, crappy cartoon from here in the USA. Featured, Rocky the flying squirrel, Bullwinkle the moose and two bumbling Russian spies named Boris and Natasha. ...The use of Boris and Natasha in "True Lies" played on this.

I know I'll be getting excited once they ship #1000. Heh.

Bullwinkle (1960s) "Watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat" (chaos)

Jim Jannard (2007) "Watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat" (Red)

It wasn't a crappy cartoon. It was quite revolutionary for its time!

I suppose it was, but when I was first exposed to it in my late '70s / early '80s youth, I wasn't too impressed. Perhaps I had far superior offerings to compare it to...

"It's an old crappy cartoon"?
Thats it, I'm hoping you drink Coors beer cause I'm coming to Golden Colorado and peeing upstream from the factory!
Comon that was one of the hippest shows ever made. Hans Conried doing the voice over on Fractured Fairytales hasn't been touched since.
An you work in animation? HAH lol

A Timeless Lesson

A Timeless Lesson

Impossible is the most beautiful word in the English language.

Jim,

With the birth of RED ONE you'll have done much more than send a shock wave through Japan they will need years to recover from and alter the landscape of this industry for good.

You'll have inspired so many that 'impossible' shouldn't be a stop sign but a guide to aim higher than anyone would ever dare to.

We read about this type of mindset often in history books and biographies but most are rarely lucky enough to be close to it and see it develop right before their eyes.

You've made yourself available through this forum and others since day one and shared your experience (ups and downs) with thousands around the world. It is an incredibly inspiring story that will stay with us for a long time and hopefully change the way some of us think about the word 'impossible' for good.

That my friend is timeless.

So thank you for that invaluable lesson and CONGRATULATIONS to you and the RED Team.

Your friend,

Frederic

Thanks Frederic. Thanks an enormous amount.

Wow, Chuck...

Didn't realize you were such a fan of Bullwinkle J. Moose. Sorry, to disappoint, but I never got into the characters... Now that it's come up in this thread that the show was revolutionary for its time, I suppose it was in a few ways, but overall not really. I do have a fondness for certain older cartoons, especially the early experimental years at Disney and others doing such things in the 30's thru 50's. Some of my all time favorite animation works are WWII era, but that's another discussion entirely.

And when does "working in animation" have such requisites as a fondness of Rocket J. Squirrel and Bullwinkle as they thwart two evil nitwits while collecting boxtops? Perhaps I should give it another look, because after all, Bullwinkle forecasting the weather based on his bunyon was a stroke of comic genius.... not. Anyway, no point in arguing over opinions. If you like Rocky and Bullwinkle, then hey good for you.

FWIW, I do some animation, but that doesn't mean I make cartoons. I do mostly architectural, tecnical and medical visualizations. To date my crowning achievement in animation has been an in-depth exploration of a new heart valve implant system. Although, the visuals I did for a US Army bridge construction training seminar are a close second. Yes, I'd like to do more animation work, but it's more of a hobby for now. The bit in my sig about Animation & FX ties in with some stuff I'm working on now in conjunction with my RED purchase. A lot of long-term contracts I've had are running out and I'd like to shift gears and go in a direction I'm more personally interested in... Will it pay the bills? Probably not, but it's worth giving it a try.

Oh yeah, I don't drink Coors --- I know what's in the water already. ;)

I don't think Chuck was questioning your manhood or abilities or anything like that. But come on.... Rocky was a classic and fractured fairytales where genius.
Back to the thread, yahoooooooo!

Yes... Back on track. I feel a couple sleepless nights coming on as I keep musing possible accessory prices and how I'm going to outfit my RED. I sure hope I can find a way to get to NAB, I think it's going to be a lot of fun for us RED folks this year.

Jeff!

Really was only spoofing...

Chuck

I realize that after reading back a few posts....

I think I need to get more sleep... Too much work and too much fun all this last week and I'm letting it get to me. :)

The accountant is wrapping up my taxes right now... It looks like I might get some back this year for a change! :w00t:

show off ! I haven't even started. boo hoo

Yeah, but I admit I was making it sound better than it is... Getting "some" back is going to be like $300. Heh.

Dear REDHEADS,

Very strong anticipation for RED in small (educated) segments of the Toronto Film and Television industry. You guys will do very well here. The announcement of easy work flow is a great relief to me. One of the chief hurdles here is slowly convincing Producers they want to make the transition to tapeless acquisition. There has been, and will continue to be, much reluctance with regards to this. I hope we can all demonstrate the reliability of this system later this spring/summer. I can't wait till NAB.

You guys are awesome.

Anticipating the prices on Monday, for sure.

I wonder what tech milestone you met yesterday was ? Whatever it was, if you're chuffed then i'm chuffed. Maybe Natasha's first footage?

Investing in a company that embraces challenges, and in fact thrives on them, was one of the reasons that I felt comfortable going along for this ride. Usually that's just 'corporate speak', but so far you've proven otherwise.

The real test will be when I get my honeybaby in my own hands. I'll wait to name her, though.
