Want To Beg: Looking for a free RED One MX

I'm willing to bet, that as soon as full inventory has been sold by RED, the R1's that you'll find for sale on the use market will not sale for that cheap... ;)

I doubt that. The Scarlet body will now sell for 6K or 5K used. That by itself limits the price a RED One MX body can be sold for. The RED One MX has now been EOL'd. That means no future firmware updates.... it's a dead product. I'm not the one that killed the product and started selling it for $4000 over night that was once 25k in the store. That's 16% of it's new value. Don't blame me guys... I'm just a poor guy without any ability to ruin your worlds.

Red One MX is practically free at $4K! Outside of Scarlet, Epic, Alexa, F65, C500, and new Sony cameras, no camera comes close to touching its image...price wise only Scarlet does. And in totally honesty, I'm a Scarlet owner and love her to death, but I know for a fact Red One MX creates a much cleaner image (and you don't have to screw with black shading every second!)

Why stop at being "practically" free?

I agree. The cameras will plummet in price now. Unfortunately, we've hit the iceberg. Just waiting now for the ship to actually sink.

On the upside, Red one, scarlets and Epics can be the new el cheapo crash cameras. Michael Bay films can have way more boom-boom so at least it's not a total disaster.

Only an idiot would give away an R1MX for free, and quite frankly be an idiot or extremely desperate to sell it for anywhere near that. RED's inventory will sell out quickly and R1 prices will actually rise again to around the value of a Scarlet X, which only has an upgrade path for its value again once over if not more and then needs many extras to even get near the R1.
You may find someone stupid enough to sell theirs really cheap or desperate enough, but me, I'm keeping my R1MX kit that is for sale unless someone pays me what it's worth and if it sits on my shelf as an airloom I don't care...prefer it gathering dust gracefully that give it away!

Love your sense of humour! I wish more people in the world had one! Maybe you have to get knocked down a few times before you develop one or something, dunno!

Shame you're not this side of the Atlantic!

Keep laughing and the very best of luck for the future! :)

What do you base this on?

Like a lot of things posted lately I suspect it's based on fear and imagination! ;)
Imagination is a good thing of course, can't knock it in a way. Just not so healthy when applied to the idea of everything being bad.

Why would someone compare RedOne with Scarlet?
Does this guys who are depressed about value of their cameras shoot anything in their lifes?
Did they bought their cameras for keeping the value or just for rent?
Even in renting, nobody rents naked body. You need to have aditional 50k in lenses, tripods, FF, Compendium...

My conclusion is that this discusions are worthless, cos we buy tools for creativity, which certainly cost much more than the damn camera.

I agree with you Aleksander. I'm really looking for someone to give me their RED One MX instead of just hanging onto it like its some museum piece collecting dust somewhere.

I gotta say, I'm feeling generous and would even stretch to pay a few hundred pounds for one, I might even pay a little extra for a scarlet or EPIC!

I just feel really bad for these people now that they have hit the iceberg and these cameras are worthless. Just to compensate them for their sadness you understand and to keep the dust from clogging up the fan inlets.

I'm kind of crazy because I'd even consider shooting on one of these obsolete antique cameras.
I'm just wacky like that!

Trust me, I get the sense of humor. I also get the bitterness that is littering the forum the past two days. A camera being worthless is in the eye of the beholder. Since I'll be getting full rate for a R1 rental next week, I guess I just see things differently than others right now. Your camera is what you make of it. As I have said elsewhere, I do understand the frustration of recent Epic owners who feel this deal came quickly and was unexpected. It's a tough boat to be in. But those cameras are not worthless. They need to continue to be put in action and hopefully see an ROI eventually, whether through rentals or through other means. The whole world is on shaky ground right now. We have to make the best of it. Sometimes there's a silver lining in all of this. For some that have been hurt by this price cut, perhaps the silver lining is if they need to buy another Epic, the price to do so is much lower now. Might still sting today, but tomorrow might bring some healing.

That's true there's a lot of people out there really suffering. I mean even that guy who mentioned in passing that he wasn't presently able to shoot with his cameras because he had had the living sh** beaten out of him by a bunch of yobs and had been unable to work as a result of his injuries. Nice. Strangely he wasn't moaning about it that much. Sure trumps "I'm not making quite as much of a huge profit as I expected to." Seems like there could be a lot of mileage in it but he wasn't inclined for some reason.

Great opportunity to get an EPIC monochrome which seems to be creating some very beautiful images!
Like I say I'm a bit weird as I like to use cameras to make beautiful images! YMMV.

I think you misunderstand the complaints. Well, why don't you go to the bank, make a loan, buy an Epic for 19 000 USD make a business plan that fits the investment, yes some prostitution to afford the arts. A month later you discover that Epic's now sells for 10 000 USD brand new, and in the mean time you've found out that prostitution don't work for you. During the course of your Epic adventure, you made only one commercial, but feel raped in your soul, so you've only earned enough to cover for 20% of the investment before you got enough. No worries you can sell it for 80% of new price, but due to the price reduction and some mysterious flooding, you only get 6500 USD for the body now, instead of the logical 80% of new price, some 15 2000 USD that would make you go break even. Who cares.

Oh, now, this little adventure has made you into a slave of debt, you need to cover for at least 10 000 USD in interest rates and loan, and you'll need to do a lot more prostitution to cover for it all. Well, it's just to close your eyes and go for it! In the mean time all your friends go to the most prestigious film schools. And you are the dirty informercial-loser in the crowd of friends that nobody wants to talk to any more. What a waste of talent.

We have to make the best of it. Sometimes there's a silver lining in all of this.

O trust me I've been thinking about the silver lining. I can only thank Jim Jannard for selling a once 25k camera for 4k overnight. I figure since RED sells there EOL'd camera with a 90 day warranty (that is equated to $850 with an ownership transfer fee and inspection fee) and a SSD module (a $1500 value)... and many RED One MX owners don't have the SSD module or a 90 day warranty or an inspection. It's not far fetched of me to ask for one for free.

*IF* they are indeed selling those Stage 3, 3.5 RED One cameras... then it's conceivable that they have thousands in stock. It could take them forever to clear their inventory. If you are waiting on the sideline looking to get rid of yours... then why not donate it to me? I could even trade something worth $1650 for it? Which is the difference of the cost of the SSD + warranty and inspection.

Or you could like just NOT take up prostitution and NOT take out a huge bank loan you can't afford and try and get by some other different way.

That would be my idea!

again YMMV!

I think you misunderstand the complaints.

I have to say the story you gave seems very different to most of the complaints I have heard which were more along the lines of "I was having a lot of success renting out my camera, I wrote off the cost of my camera against tax, so basically got it for free, and now the residual amount is so little that I can't even be bothered to sell my camera because I'm not going to make as big a profit doing so as I expected. I feel so sad that I think I'm just going to take a break and drive off to my second home in Mexico."

However maybe there are more people with the scenario you describe but they aren't as loud at complaining. It would figure if that was the case really.
