  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Vista Vision Update.

This is what we waited for... But now as Jarred let us have heliums in the mean time it will be really difficult to let go. I never thought I wanted two cameras, not two of the same brand and especally not two 8k cameras. And then here I am... :)

Now I really quickly need to find that special project that really demands that I one of each. :)

That was partly my strategy for opting to get the Stormtrooper in addition to my Forged.. my Forged camera will get the VV treatment, Stormtrooper stays Helium l.

What I love about the VV cameras from Red, is that they still retain the modularity of the DSMC2 system. They will also make a great compliment to the DXL, which has a much larger, fixed form factor.

Can we keep our Hellium Sensor @ Red for a swap? Or do we give the Hellium sensor back?
Just making plans and it would be good to know.

Jacob, we will have formal information on the programs next month. But, yes, those of you who got Helium to tide you over until your VV pre-order was ready will have the option to purchase your "loaner" Helium sensor.

not epic-w owners only Weapon Helium i guess?
That was a reference to the people who bought Carbon 6K weapons with deposits in for 8K VV. The wait for VV was a long one, so they offered to upgrade those people to Helium for free, while they waited for VV to come out.

(EDIT: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?147786-Helium-8K-s35-Dragon-8K-VV) There it is

Epic-W owners will have to upgrade to Weapon, then buy another sensor. (Epic-W -> Weapon happening next month)

The camera I always wanted. The ultimate DSMC, convergence of stills and photos. Hopefully I will be able to update my Weapon Helium next year. Until then, really, really happy with the Helium sensor.

Thanks Brent!

We should stipulate, in post it's compatible though :)

You can also preview output (and live grade) with IPP2 color science via 3D LUT in camera or OMOD Command / Command RT.

VV firmware of course gives you the ability to send monitor path RWG/LOG3G10 - so, while you have to use different 3D LUTs with highlight roll off options rolled in - you certainly CAN have IPP2 color science applied in the correct order on your signal paths.

We have had several VV customers that have used OMOD Command to live grade with IPP2 color via Pomfort LiveGrade. Works fantastically - and you can even color grade SDR and HDR at the same time with different CDLs. Super slick.

I really need to get a video up showing this.

Fantastic news and I see at least 18 VV sensors in Jarred's pic. Check out the September issue of Film and Digital Times and the amazing array of glass heading our way for Full frame. Sony will soon follow Red's lead into the Full frame game and with the Panavision DXL and Arri's Alexa 65 its safe to say Red's push into large sensor cinematography was the right call.

haha, the problems we have! I hear you on this and in a very similar boat with both a forged and trooper (I wonder how many of us have this combo). I have a strange dilemma as I need two heliums now as I will be shooting 3D this fall, I guess I'll be buying yet another camera. I can't pass up on a vista!

Interesting!!! This will be a strange request, but will there be an option to rent our sensors out?

Hi Michel,

well I don't have a Helium yet... (have been editing a lot of helium...) On the VistaVision - it's the use of full frame glass on the large sensor that stands out - been shooting a lot of super wides (11mm to 28mm range) - so you on the VV are actually working slightly wider with the VV sized sensor over 35mm full frame and way wider than s35.. and on the longer lenses your using more of the full width of the glass as it was intended in it's design... the VV being a Dragon sensor with a lot more on board computing power and the new firmware allows a lot of latitude over the Epic/Dragon and again a slightly different feel than the Helium.. I'm an old school guy who likes large format and the VistaVision gets into that realm of visual subtleties... so glass/sensor combo.

I'm somewhat glad i don't have to decide between Helium and VistaVision, yet. Working on it! ;-)

Truly amazing news for everyone here, the pic of those sensors is cool. Aren't they beauties? Can't wait to see what those babies are going to shoot for us.
